  • How to install Jpn POL mixed with US FFXI?

I came across a guide very long ago, that to enable japanese word typing in US version FFXI is to install the japanese version POL. However, after i installed Jpn POL, FFXI refused to install saying that POL is not installed. It only allowed installation after US POL is installed.

Jpn POL default installation folder is :\>SQUARE\PlayonlineViewer
US POL default installation folder is :\>SquareEnix\PlayonlineViewer
FFXI is installed under :\>SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XI
The default root installation folder path cannot be changed.

After i signed into Jpn POL, the FFXI icon was displayed, but when i tried to play, it returned error 020: FFXi is not installed (in jpn)

    Please assist, thank you.

Thank you. I edited the registry and FFXI ran the few hours update. However in game all interfaces are now in japanese lol... item names, menu...etc. I wonder if it is possible to leave english interfaces, what i need is only japanese input... i hate katakana.

Re: How to install Jpn POL mixed with US FFXI?

Ok so... here goes. I have a problem here. I installed the japanese POL viewer for vista because it was available on the japanese FFXI playonline official site. First of all I used to have a disc of the JP playonline and FFXI however I let a friend borrow it and blam it is gone now...

So, here is my problem. I install the JP Playonline Viewer and then install the expansions, when I load the game up after I update it crashes... also when loading the game it asks me to re-insert the Vanadiel collection DVD which I do and it appears to revert me back to vanadeal collection 2006 which includes everything but Aht Urgan... it seems the problem may be with Aht Urgan.

Does anyone have a JP Aht Urgan expansion disc? also does anyone have an original JP Playonline installer for XP, I just need POL...

I don't mind the game being fully in japanese... in fact that is what I want... but I also want all the expansions... guess it is hard to have your cake and eat it too...

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated...

If your ToAU install is not completely hosed, it should just be a matter of pointing the 1000 key under PlayOnline\InstallFolder (there should already be 0000 and 0001 keys to reference) to the location of your old FFXI install, and let POL do a full file check/update on FFXI (automatic when you press プレイ. I have both PlayOnlineUS and PlayOnline pointing to the same FFXI folder, which does work, albeit with some slight inconvenience (full file check required after each update), you can also copy the old folder to a new location if you want to avoid this.

1000 key huh? I guess I will try that. I have two seperate folders both with every expansion... I have tryed installing each expansion and updating the problem lies when I install ToAU expansion... this 1000 key should be what the path to my install folder? I will add it, hope that works... please let me know if you have all expansions installed and have this work for you...

My 1000 key was allready set properly, that is what points to Playonline. Anyway I think I just need to find a copy of the japanese Vandiel Collection 2008 disc so I can install that, this would most likely alieveate any sort of problem I am having with my files... I really think it has something to do with the ToAU expansion install.

Re: How to install Jpn POL mixed with US FFXI?

I didn't get that error on my system until sometime around installing Wings of the Goddess. I've had Aht Urhgan on my US install since release and duplicated the folder to another drive to use as a JP install with a JP PlayOnline install disc, and it worked right away when I did that. Something within the past 2 weeks broke it and gave me the error only in the JP client. All registry keys were ported from the NA install, except for edits to direct to the JP install paths, which did work until recently, with Aht Urhgan installed.

Re: How to install Jpn POL mixed with US FFXI?

Surprisingly, my JP POL and NA POL installations always worked well, I never had to do full file checks before any update patches, nor did I have to go through FFXI file checks when I load either of the POLs into game. I can try to answer anyone's queries by e-mail or MSN if interested. I think the key to it is to have both NA discs and JP discs on hand. I have just done the installations again recently because I had to reinstall my windows xp.

I havent done any installation with just NA discs and JP POL alone. I might try a test installation some time and see if the registry keys can be manually added to the JP section.

The installation works up to TOA, since I dont have Wings of Goddess at the moment, I dont know if WOG has any effect at all.

Re: How to install Jpn POL mixed with US FFXI?

See, I don't have many JP install discs. I was only fortunate enough to dig up a JP PC one for PlayOnline Viewer. PS2 is my primary platform, and I only copy PC discs from friends, so keep backups for them, and to have a PC install for when the PS2 is in use by roommates. I buy PS2 discs from Japan since I imported the game in mid-2002 and need Japanese codes.

Unfortunately, only European and NA discs seem to be torrented, or I'd have JP discs on hand and not be duplicating the folder manually. However, the duplication worked before, and kept my settings intact between both installs.

I have JP discs and NA discs as well. I'm interested in having my NPC text in English, but I'm ok with my menus and what not being in Japanese. Also, I need to be able to type in Japanese (kanji included). So what can I do? Also, is it impossible to make these solutions work on Vista?

While messing around with POL and trying to get the US version of the game to work with the EU POL client i edited some registry stuff and now i forgot what i did. I really don't want to reinstall the game again since i dont have the cds. I reinstalled the US POL client but now it wont pick up FFXI. Someone please help!

You really shouldn't be messing around with delicate system config files without knowing what you're doing, especially if you aren't keeping track of your changes. That goes doubly for the registry.

If the changes you made aren't already listed from the place you got them, you probably will need to reinstall. Try changing the settings listed above back to your NA folders, and make sure the folders have the right titles.

I really don't understand how to make those changes. I thought i knew but that's what got me here in the first place. do I just create new 0001 and 0003 files? cause they're not there. all i have are 0002 and 1000.

                            0002 Data = D:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\TetraMaster

                            1000 Data = D:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer

hopefully I wont have to reinstall ><

From what I remember, the NA client uses \PlayOnlineUS\, might want to look into that.
