Hey, I am having a big problem. I just installed the game, and I have to go through that lengthy download for FFXI. Whenever i get to about 30 percent, my entire pc freezes and i have to restart the process over again, And i have no idea why it is doing this.

    my specs
    P4 3.0 ghz HT
    2 GB Ram
    ATI Radeon X300
    Sound Blaster Live card

    Please help!

Does your computer freeze entirely or is it just the download? If it's your PC (if it hangs) one of the first things you gotta check is for your Processor's fan to be working correctly.

Edit > And that the heatsink is making proper contact with the processor (in time the heatsink's paste gets dry and has to be cleaned and reaplied)

I've bumped into Pentium based PCs that actually function normally without the fan working, but the moment the Processor gets used a bit more the heat hangs the system.

But yeah if it happens only with XI then it's gotta be something else.

Its a new PC, so there processor was just freshly glued etc. Its not an over heating, cause i have done many other more CPU heavy things.

I know the question was asked....but I didn't see a clarification on it. Does the entire PC "freeze" forcing you to reboot or does the download "hang" leaving you with the ability to enter the task manager, from which you would stop the process?

....on a related note, do you have any problems downloading large amounts of data for extended periods of time from other sources?

not the processor, but you get the point.

well that's probably your problem. I have no idea who the hell would tell you to use glue on your PC as anything more than a (very expensive) practical joke, but there shouldn't be any glue in your PC.

That's weird, it sounds like it's a software related problem then, but without being able to check the PC physically there isn't much we can help you with.

Are you running FF with XP or Vista? And if it's Vista. Did you download the Vista client from Playonline?

Does a "1337 r16" sticker glued to the casing count? o.O

there's a large difference between in a PC and on a PC, and a sticker and glue.

Ive done a check of the errors that occured, and it was an error with the hardrive. Its a 320 gb sata drive, and apperntly sata drives are prone to this sort of problem. Im going to try reinstalling it on my 2ndary IDE drive and see if it works.

                            A new problem now
It happens once every while, unless i restart my pc.
When i start up FF11 it crashes back to the playonline ff11 menu.
                            Any ideas?

Does it give you any messages or just crashes? And how far into the loading process does it go before crashing.

PS > Congrats on getting it fixed the first time, I had the same problem but had to reinstall the OS altogether because I got a massive disk error. It seems S-ATAs are very unreliable.
