  • NA and EU installs

    I did a few searches, can't fidn the precice answer, don;'t really feel like wasteing several hours downloading do here I go.

    Can I use a NA account on a EU install?
    Can I install Wings of the goddess NA on top of EU install (registering the NA code to my NA account)?

    I'm pretty sure I can, thats why I bought the 07 EU pack in the first place. Just wanted to make sure before I go spending ages downloading.

      Use, yes. No problem there.

      You cannot mix and match NA and EU installs - all expansion packs have to be the same region.

        Re: NA and EU installs

        bah, so i'd have to buy both NA and EU WotG, install EU noto my EU install and use the NA code on my NA account?

        That sucks, No idea why It wouldn't work from a file point of view, unless SE decided to be evil and change one or two files ;_;

        Oh well, thanks a lot.

          It is very specific coding for each region - for the main POL files and a few others.

          Most players I know who started playing early imported the NA version, and have to keep importing the expansions.

            Yeah, That's what I've done.

            I just have like 3 days till University, reinstalling windows and everything. I was expecting the update to be bigger, if it was bigger would take ages to get it all working again. I had to reinstall the day of the jun/jul update, that was hell ;_;

            Oh well. Guess I'll give my EU version away to someone, might make a few £ off it seeing as I got it very cheap.

              It might be bit late to reply this thread but what the heck.

              I was able to mix the installation of the JP and NA version back a while ago, I dont know if the same procedures would work for NA and EU. At the time, I only had JP 2006 All-In-One pack and for NA ver, I had just the original, ROZ and COP expansions. I wanted to have both english and japanese versions but only taking HDD space of 1 installation, so I tried to install the JP TOA onto the NA install and it worked. However, theres further registry key editing to do after my installations because without editing, everytime I log from JP POL, I would have to go through the file checking because the JP and NA registry keys dont match, but in this post, I am not going to add more complications since Kuro only wish to keep 1 version of the game and that is the EU version.

              Assuming EU and NA would work the same way, here is what I did for JP and NA if I remember correctly:

              1. I installed POL for NA

              2. Updated NA POL before proceeding any further.

              3. Install the NA original, ROZ and COP.

              4. Log into my account using NA POL, then updated FFXI, after which I logged off again to windows. (The update took quite awhile because my Original and ROZ were the first release back in 2003)

              5. I then installed the JP POL onto a separate folder.

              6. Installed the JP original only (the JP installation would install FFXI onto the folder where your JP playonline is located). Then removed the JP installation disc from the DVD drive (JP used DVD in 2006 All-In-One pack)

              7. Got into registry keys and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, went to SOFTWARE, found my JP and NA "Playonline" sections. Under NA POL section, I expanded the tree (as opposed to "collapse") and found "InstallFolder". Inside "InstallFolder", right click on 0001 and chose "modify". I copied the whole path and then press cancel. Then I went to JP POL section and expanded tree to get into "InstallFolder". right click on 0001 and chose "modify", pasted the path, then clicked ok.

              8. Plugged the JP disc into the dvd drive again and then installed TOA.

              9. Log onto my POL account using NA POL and updated the game again and everything went normal.

              10. Manually deleted the JP FFXI Installation folder to save HDD space.

              11. Now I can log onto JP version or NA version depending on the POL I used.

              The procedures may be a bit complicated and I am sorry if I havent explained well enough for anyone to understand. I can only hope that those attempting to do it will be able to understand them. If anyone wants to know more about this, feel free to email me and we can try to sort things out. I must emphasise tho that I am not a computer expert, hardware or software, so please dont expect me to be able to answer everything.

              Forgot to address the other issue regarding your NA WOtG expansion.

              My account is JP account. In the old days, the registration codes of JP expansions could only be applied to JP accounts, and NA codes on NA accounts. The thing I am not sure about is, whether I can log on NA POL and apply my JP expansion codes, to my JP account (my guess is it wont allow me to). If it allows me to, then Kuro can just apply the NA code to his NA account in EU POL. If it doesnt, then Kuro should keep the NA POL installed, so that the NA WOtG codes can be registered using the NA POL.
