Error is "Class Not Registered" on WINDOWS VISTA I have found fixes for xp but vista has a different architecture I can apply it to, below is a bit of background on this issue please help me out if you can

Ok, I am away from my house, and was unable to bring my computer, for about a month. I had my portable hard drive with my final fantasy files on it and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they had just gotten a new Vista computer and a dsl connection. I loaded all my ff files into the computer and found an error with it and tracked it down to a registry issue and managed to get it fixed with the help of a friend back home but now I have the above listed problem of "Class Not Registered." I found an example of someone who had fixed it by editing the boot.ini file in xp but vista has changed how it handles booting and this file no longer exists. I managed to figure out it uses Bcdedit.exe to adjust it now but I could not find anything similar to the other fix about turning off auto-execute in it. I don’t have my install discs and my friend can’t find them either. If anyone knows how to fix this problem or has a buddy code I can use to download the installer from SE (not to activate an account just the download page needs a password to access it) which will probably fix this problem if I run it then load all my updated files in. So anyone who can help me out with this please let me know I don’t think I can survive the month of isolation with the family without some final fantasy ;_;

you can't just copy the ffxi files over and have it work. the install process registers dll's along with setting the registry. even if you manually register all the dll's (regsvr32), it still won't work (I tried it on XP). sorry, but you need to install it from CDs (and be sure to get the Vista version of POL from SE).

Thanks Yyg!

The problem with that is that I have lost the cd's somewhere in my house and I cant get them ;; What dod you mean vista pol viewer version though? maybe that would help me fix this issue

I doubt it will, since NT already explained why that won't work. But you do need the Vista version of POL from Playonline.com.

Ok digging around the playonline site i foudn the vista compatible pol viewer, hope this will work, because I get the error when launching POL viewer NOT ffxi itself, hopefully this will fix it

--Edit--
Ok viewer is working and updating now hopfully ffxi will work once its finished =3

--Edit2--
Well it installed and once I remembered my password was working great.. until I loaded ffxi and it told me I was running a beta version and I need to install the retail version, how strange and sad =/ so if anyone would be able to send me an installer for the ffxi part (no expansions or anything) or give me a buddy code so I can download it myself would be greatly appritiated ;;

simply put, you need to do what NT suggested, and actually install the game.

You can pick up the Vana'diel collection 2007 for like 20$, seriously.

Then you don't play, it's as simple as that.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

When i'm away from my home pc or consoles, I can always rely on my trusty DS or a good book rather than spending my time fiddling away at a pointless task...
