  • The Real Controller Question

What controller hardware/setup/software is needed for FFXI to work properly, including force feedback, on the PC without crashing?

I've looked at the Rumblepad 2 from Logitech and like the looks of it.. not sure about the wireless because my home phones are 2.4 GHz wireless also. Also, just to verify, the DualShock PS2 controller made by Sony works well with the Radioshack adapter, as long as you turn off the force feedback, without crashing correct?

BTW, replacing a post with this junk is very lame and poor programming:

with out crashing? I have never had this problem and I have used about 6 different controllers.

What I am using now, and is the best for about 20-25 or so, is the Logitech Dual Action Game pad, it has all the buttons the PS2 has. Only thing is it has no rumble, but you really dont need it anyway. But Logitech does make the same controller with rumble but its about 10 more bucks.

Yes, but I want the option of the rumble feature.

Why do you want the rumble feature, exactly? There isn't exactly a lot of rumble going on in FFXI, and when it is, it's annoying.

I'd like to have it as an option and determine for myself to use it or not..

Then just use a regular PS2 controller with an adaptor. Problem solved.

I use Saiteck Rumble Force; it's not exactly a PS2 controller, but similar, and fits my hands better (it's larger). Not sure if you can get one anymore, but it's sturdy, and much, much more usable and durable than the the Logitech controller I started off with.

leaving no trace in the water.

So many people say the force feedback causes the game client to crash when doing this.

I guess I'll take my chances with the Logitech Rumblepad 2, since it specifically states Vista compatability also.

Lots of people here use it, and they haven't posted anything like that on this thread. You're probably safe.

The RadioShack adapters have been discontinued. They cannot be gotten anywhere. I called 5 RadioShacks in my area and got the same story along with them saying that they had sent their adapters 'back'.

Guess I'll be going with the Logitech Rumblepad 2 corded and crossing my fingers..

I used the Joypad adapter for a while like SA. It worked great until I accidently shocked it one morning because I had just gotten up and was dragging my feet on the carpet :x
