  • MAC OSX v4 Tiger

Hi, I have been playing FFXI for quite some time now. A while ago my bf started playing too (i used to play on pc, but we bought the 360 version as my pc lags when i play it and generally doesnt run it too well) he hates windows, and the thought of playing it on my pc when it doesnt run it perfectly, so i was always stuck playing it on the computer whilst he used the console.

lately however, he has considered re-opening his account, and we were wondering if it would run on his Mac, or if there is actually some way of getting it to work that wouldnt be considered as violating the terms of agreement etc...

his Mac runs OSX v4 Tiger, and has a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 1.5 G Ram and a 128 ATI X1600 Graphics card.

There's no way to run FFXI without windows. You can run it on a windows virtual machine, such as VMware or Bootcamp, however. This still requires a copy of windows and a valid license.

        Bootcamp - Not an emulator
VMware Fusion - Won't run FFXI due to it not supporting Cube Mapping. VMware says it may work in the final release because of debugging assertions being turned off. Fusion still won't support the cube mapping but it might not crash hard.
Paralells - No DirectX or accelerated graphics support

Bootcamp is the only way to run it on Apple branded hardware.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

          I didn't say emulator.

My point was, you can not run FFXI without windows.
