FFXI Shuts down

About three weeks ago I noticed my computer randomly shutting down while playing FFXI, at first I didn't realize FFXI was the problem (this only happens 3 or 4 times). However, for 4 days now my computer shuts down everytime I log on to FFXI. I get my Linkshell messages, I notice everything is lagging and then it shuts down.

At first I thought it was a virus, but I did a virus scan on 3 different programs (Ad-aware, McAfee, and hijackthis), and all I found was an ad on ad-aware which I deleted.

Then I thought maybe something was wrong with my fan, but I didn't notice it slowing down while logging on FFXI, and it doesn't seem to generally be slower than usual. So I don't think that's it.

So if anyone has any ideas on what to do or if they've had any simular problems, please tell me. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

go into your system properties (right click my computer), advanced, startup and recovery. turn off automatically reboot. this will give you a nice blue screen of death next time it happens and should give a better idea of what is wrong. make note of the message it outputs.

I saw nv4_disp.dll on the blue screen, and I just did a search and see it's in my system32 folder. Any suggestions? And thank you so much for replying so quickly
I knew the nv4 part reminded me of my graphic card name, I looked it up on google and saw a similar problem. So it's whenever my card is being used, my computer restarts. I'm going to try updating it like the person suggests and I'll edit this post with my results when I'm done.
Thanks so much for suggesting the blue screen, sadly I'd never think of that.

Your video card is going bad, the fan on your video card is going bad or you need to upgrade your video card drivers.

NV4_disp.dll says you are running an NVidia graphics card. There is a post on the NVidia forums that may help you: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=4432
Look at the second post before you try the first one, there are some tips in there that may solve your problem before you start trying to patch the drivers.

^^ you guys are awesome! I was just on FFXI and it didn't shut down. I logged out to thank you, and now I'm going to go back on to talk to my Linkshell.
