I'd like to hear if it were possible too. I have a desktop that my girlfriend and I both use and I'd like to have both versions for her and I. However once I get past all the data1.cab errors hopefully I can actually get my JP FFXI installed.
Honestly, why does Square have to be a big pain in the ass? It just doesn't make sense.
Yes, it's possible. I have both versions installed and can run either just fine. However, I vaguely remember doing something tricky to the registry. I can't remember what exactly that I did because it's been over 2 years.
yes, in order to run multiple clients you have to do some regediting. If you don't know what that is, I recommend you not even read past this. If you do,
If you want to run JP/NA clients, here's what you do:
Install JP/NA FFXI. I forget what goes first, and you should expect to spend some time with this anyway. After you install it, install the other client's POL. FFXI has files for all languages, which version of POL you use is what decides which one you have. In the registry, I beleive you have to edit some POL files to direct it towards the other client's installation (Not exact, but JP POL will install to something like "POL/Square" compared to NA installed to "PlayOnline/SquareEnix" or something. Basically, in the registry, where the JP client says "POL/Square", replace it with what the NA version says, "PlayOnline/SquareEnix". Again, this is NOT exact, and I am NOT sure if this still works. When you edit your registry, you do it at your own risk, and blahblah legalese, don't come crying to me if you mess something up.
Thanks for the reply. However since I installed both versions on my main computer I started to have some nasty errors. I dunno, both worked fine at first then it copped out when I started getting POL errors. No big deal. I uninstalled my JP POL on the main and left the NA for my girlfriend, then pretty much turned my laptop into a JP version. Pretty nice, more convenient. I'll have to say, though... Now playing on the NA version is just weird!! lol
