  • Windows Vista, 8800GTS and Forceware 100.59

Well asking for help here, can get game to look beutifully and all, but the moment there are more then 10 PC/NPC models in my near vicinity my framerate drops down to 5 fps no matter the resolution or overlay resolution settings.

    System
    Core 2 Duo E6600 @ factory speeds
    Gainward 8800GTS @ factory speeds
2 GB OCZ PC6400 RAM @ 4-4-4-12 (no overclocking or anything)
    WD Raptor SATA System Disk

Doesn't matter whatever I tweak the fps just plummets down to 4-7 according to fraps the moment it has to handle more then 10 models.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to tweak the settings for FFXI to actually work on this sytem
Keep in mind, sig might be outdated I just update it a few times per week.
Signature with the usual levels and obtained stuff etc. . .

Recently the development team confirmed that there are problems with PlayOnline Viewer and Windows Vista. Since they have yet to announce that they've resolved the problems, it's unlikely that Final Fantasy XI is guaranteed to work properly with Windows Vista at this time.

It's highly likely that the problem isn't a case of your hardware or installation; FFXI just isn't guaranteed to work properly with Vista at this time. I'm sure there are people out there who've managed to get it working correctly, and hopefully they can help, I just want to make sure you're aware that SE has yet to resolve all problems associated with POL, FFXI and Windows Vista.

Actually it runs perfectly with Radeon 9800PRO on Vista after some fiddling, but the Nvidia 8800 series of cards just plain refuse to work for some obscure reason. (have a lot of hardware at home to test with)

Re: Windows Vista, 8800GTS and Forceware 100.59

I run Windows Vista Buisness final release

        Support for Microsoft® Windows Vista™
We are currently running performance validation of our software with Microsoft® Windows Vista™, soon to be released by Microsoft Corporation, using the final release candidate Windows Vista RC2. As of January 2007, we have confirmed that the PlayOnline Viewer and content on PlayOnline fails to function due to the problems listed below.

We are still working with Microsoft Corporation to solve these problems, but since performance validation takes time, we anticipate our support of Microsoft® Windows Vista™ to start after the official version goes on sale.

To our customers who plan on upgrading Microsoft® Windows Vista™ we apologize for the inconvenience and sincerely ask for your understanding.

        [ Software Affected ]
        PlayOnline Viewer
Content supported by PlayOnline (FINAL FANTASY XI)

        The install menu doesn’t activate.

Even when the install disk is present in the disk drive, the application named “Install Menu” to select which program to install does not start. Instead, the PlayOnline Viewer installation begins.

        The PlayOnline Viewer doesn’t start.

Sometimes, after installing the PlayOnline Viewer, the application fails to launch, and the message “PlayOnline Viewer cannot run under current operating system” appears.

Since the PlayOnline Viewer does not launch, FINAL FANTASY XI becomes unplayable.
Even when the PlayOnline Viewer does launch, we cannot guarantee its further operation.

Similar problems occur once PCs that we have previously confirmed are upgraded to Microsoft® Windows Vista™
        1. Install POL and all expansions and download all updates on an XP machine (I did it on XP Pro Myself)
        2. Make a backup of the entire PlayOnline folder on a Dual-layer DVD, External hardrive or network map
        3. Install POL Viewer (Only) on Vista machine
        4. Copy over the POl Viewer folder from the backup you made from XP
        5. Run POL an check files/update POL viewer then close POL Viewer
        6. Install FFXI, Rise of Zilart, CoP and ToAU normally
        7. Copy over all the files from the XP backup
        8. Start POL and do a file check/update on all the files
        9. violá Final Fantasy XI works on Windows Vista with no other issues then that 8800GTS works like a piece of garbage in FFXI
