i am interseted in buying a new video card GTX 8800, i was wondering if anyone tried. cause the video card i have is 7900 and it lags when fire spell is casted of ballad song its so annoying , so please could anyone help fix that problem or tell me about this new video card

well the lag is because of a driver problem with the game and certain nvidia cards. the 6000 series was a common victim of this problem, but i didn't know the 7000 series has it too. if that's the case, the 8800 might not be better.

another thing you can try is use different driver versions. perhaps an older (or newer) driver won't have this problem.

Those issues are common if you are using a driver version that isn't compatible. SE's playonline site tells you specifically which drivers are supported. However they don't have any info on the 8 Series for which driver to use. If you have that issue I would probably start with ForceWare 91.47 (Known compatible for 7 Series) and slowly test upgrading from there if you can. Since you currently have 7 Series, which ForceWare version are you using? If it's higher then 91.47 you'll probably want to put it to no higher then 91.47 version of ForceWare and see if that solves the issue.

If that version is to low for the Video Card then start with whatever is the lowest it can handle and work up from that one. To also add, feeling a bit like a broken record here. Don't know how many times I've repeated already that GeForce 5 Series is not compatible for ForceWare 91.47 with FFXI, it's known compatible only up to ForceWare 56.64. Go higher then that and likely to have problems. If you don't have any problems though it would be intresting to know what ForceWare version it is above what SE has stated.
