If you don't have a DVD player on your computer, does that mean you can't play the game? I have a Dell and need to know if there is some other way, or how to get one. All help will be greatly appreciated.........(Windows XP)

You have laptop without DVD? If you have a desktop PC, you can get DVD drives for less than $10 these days.

Another way is to use disc image files. Mount them and install it from there. You'll have to look for torrents yourself.

One solution Jei said would be download the game and all its expansions from a torrent and install it. Then buy the new Vana'Diel Collection 2007 DVD-Rom and use those codes to play.

Failing that, all the old releases (the game, Rize of the Zilart expansion & Chains of Promathia expansion) are on CD-Rom if you look hard enough. The latest one, Treasures of Aht Urghan is DVD-Rom only.

Basically you will need something like this.
Internal dvd drive or External dvd drive.

But I would recommend spending the extra money for a dvd burner or a combo drive due to the price diffrence is minimal. ( Plus that way you could make copy's of stuff)

The internal drives you will have to open your computer case but they are not very hard to install, the external drives will just plug into a USB connector. And if your wondering the drives that are marked OEM are the same as non OEM, just OEM drives do not have retail packages.

                Re: Dvd_rom

I got the dvd-rom, got it set up, and loaded the software, but it keeps on saying for dvd's(movies) and XI a disc with unsupported format in drive. I don't think I'll ever be able to paly this game.

Can someone tell me more about these torrents? I have no idea what they are.

Unfortunately, no one can tell you about the torrents, because pointing them is against the site EULA, and puts the poster in a compromised position. However if you were to google some keywords ... like torrent, ffxi, and download you might get lucky.

Back to the drive though. Are you sure you got a DVD drive? The "Unsupported format" sounds like you might accidently got another CD-Rom drive?

The outside of the drive, next to the button, says DVD-rom on it.

The fact my computer says it can't play dvds due to the fact it doesn't have a dvd-rom drive, so I bought a dvd rom drive.

it says on this one fees are required, and internet access is required but when I bought it off line it says CD-ROM, accept for The Regular Vana'diel collection, and ToA.
