Can someone please help me?

I have been having a really annoying problem with Final Fantasy XI for one year now,.....

Final Fantasy XI seem to lag like hell, it lags even in not crowded areas, like Northern Gustaberg.....

I dont know what do...., i tried using the lowest setting, but i't didnt help, it still lags, i also tried using the old nvidia drivers, but it's all the same thing... Dammit!

Final Fantasy XI Benchmark runs great and i get 6000+ Points, other games runs well to (like Oblivion,HL2,Doom3, Prey, Fear) and so on....

I have contacted Square Enix support but it sucked, cuz they couldnt help me!

I hope that someone can help me, i would really appreciate that!

Compaq sr1220nd

768mb ram
3.02 GHz Intel Celerond D processor
128MB Nvidia GeForce 6600GT GPU
Intel® 845GE Chipset (I think it has something to do with it!!!)
2Mbit

I have tried making it work for one year, i really love this game, but i can't play it when the fps goes all the way down to 2!!!!!!

The nvidia 6 series cards have been known to have issues running FFXI. All that can be really said here is turn off weather effects, shadows, change the character models to minimum, and turn off effects for people outside your party. (All in the ingame options)

You are getting hit harder then most people did due to those Celeron D processors really sucked and you are running 3x256=768 or 1x512 and 1x256=768 sticks of memory so your memory is not running in dual channel mode.

The only way your Intel chipset would be disagreeing with your computer is if the video is still working on it. But if your managing to run other games then I doubt thats the problem.

Also try useing the filecheck function of the pol viewer and the 1.669 nvidia drivers are known to work 1.669 drivers (omega version) And remember to compleatly UNINSTALL your old video drivers before installing your new (old) drivers.

Quick question to clarify on dual channel mode. Does it only work with two sticks of the same size/spec memory? I am running a single stick (1G) of DDR2-667. Would 2x512M or 2x1G 1) enable dual channel, and 2) make a noticable difference in all-around performance?

I hope this is not a derail. I'll be happy to open a new thread if need be.

I have a computer with exact the same configuration except that it has an pentium 4 ht 2.8 Ghz Cpu, and oblivion and 3ds max runs much better on my celeron D than on that p4 cpu!!!!!

It didnt help, i installed the drivers, took out the 256 Ram stick (now i have 512) But it still lags! WTF , What should i do?

Yes dual channel will help, in dual channel mode both sticks are going to run at the speed of your slowest stick. Dual channel doubles your available memory bandwidth, Its not to say its going to double your performance but 2 gig's of memory in windows xp is always a very nice thing. But wait a month or two due to memory prices are high right now. (my ram is worth +$20 more and my cpu is worth -$100 less)

And I have a cheep Celeron computer (around the same time frame as theres) with one of those processors and I really really hated it. Also those first Pentium 4's also had big performance issues, often they were getting out preformed by some of the later Pentium 3 processors.

And im not sure why but allot of people seem to have trouble especially with AGP Nvidia 6 series cards. I also played with a Nvidia 6600 (PCIe) and yes sometimes it slowed down, bard songs were a good example but I never got anything as bad as people are reporting. But I was using a much faster processor.

All I can really say is cut out all effects you do not need to see. If you have a friend or something with a ATI card or Nvidia 7 series AGP card you could try there card and see one of those will help. 7600gs is slightly faster then a 6600gt.

This is a issue most likely related to drivers and I doubt Nvidia hads just ignored it, but this may be a much more complex issue that it appears to be. And unfortunately I never owned a AGP Nvidia 6 series card so there is no way for me to try and properly test this stuff out. The only solution that I have consistently heard works is using the 1.669 drivers. Also try and upgrade your motherboard drivers.

If you want to get really extreme you could run CPUZ find out the real manufacture and model of your motherboard and try and upgrade your BIOS. But that is a steep I would not recommend due to most likely your going to have to force it to flash, there is the off chance you could make your computer inoperable, and most likely it would not help anyways.

Also a quick note on dual channel is sometimes the sticks or memory will need to be in slots 1 and 3 for it to work.
