Buy the game at EB, get a credit card, put money into said card, then follow the manual instructions.

Step 1: Make sure you have the following:
- A working Internet connection (dialup is OK, broadband is better)
- A valid Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card.
- A Windows 2000/XP PC or XBox 360 with XBox Live

Step 2: Go out and purchase the FFXI Vana'diel Collection for either PC or Xbox 360 (I'm going to assume you don't have an old-style PlayStation 2 with HDD since you wouldn't be asking this question - FFXI came standard with the HDD). Strongly recommend that you buy these new, and not used, as there is no guarantee that the registration codes are still valid on a used copy (usually they aren't).

Step 3: Install PlayOnline and FFXI from the discs onto your PC/XBox 360.

Step 4: Log into PlayOnline, update, and create a PlayOnline ID (free)

Step 5: Log into FFXI, update, and purchase a Content ID with your credit/debit card (first 30 days of fees are waived for the trial period that comes with every new copy of the game).

Step 6: Create a character with your new content ID and start playing.
