Re: I can't get FFXI to work on my CPU

From the specs you posted it's AGP.

There are 3 main graphics card types depending on the slot they use, PCI (very old), AGP (past gen) and PCI-Express (current gen of cards).

Most descriptions online are something like this:

Radeon 9800XT 256MB AGP (or PCI or PCIE)

I strongly recomend ATI Radeon cards over Nvidia cards, specially if you are buying it mainly to play XI. Any card Radeon 9700 and upward will run the game well, the higher number the better (same with memory), and XT cards are improved versions.

There's one little detail though, your video card performance is gonna be kinda limited because the mainboard you have right now is AGP 4x so that will slow down performance a little bit. Most AGP cards are compatible with 4x though so you wont have troubles with the card not working.

Hmm, now that I think about it, that Rage Pro card of yours could be an integrated solution (common in the old Dells). What is the maker and model number of the computer you have? that way we can check for sure what kind of graphics card you have and if you can even upgrade it.

        Thanks Yyg!

Whoever said I could get a graphics card for about $50, I have yet to find one that cheap. The cheapest I found so far is ATI Radeon 9550, and it was $100.

It's a VIA mother board (AGP 4x), if you wanna check it out (and the manual) go here.

P4PB 266E is known as a VIA motherboard released back in July 02, based on Apollo P4X266E chipset, and it's supposed to have an AGP slot (4X - Ver 2.0, 1.5V).

It's possible that his PC uses the customized version of P4PB 266E which lacks an AGP alot, and still providing its name as the same to the sysinfo application. But as w/ the case of customized ASUS motherboards that bear unique names, I don't think they'd use the product name that's already assigned to another motherboard.

              Just for reference, I got this picture off the VIA's website;

You could find a cheap card at the store easier than online, but if you wanna buy online then check this one out, it isn't $50.00 but it's close .

Edit> Just one thing, this card requires for you to have your system properly cooled, all the comments it that section were complaining about overheating but that's because their CPU isn't properly cooled.

You could also buy a heatsink/fan for it which will increase the life of your card, specially because of the long periods of time you are gonna be playing XI

Though it's GeForce FX 5700LE, it's even under 40 bucks.

Whatever the card, Pricewatch might come in handy.

Re: Which graphics card is better?

never buy and ati se(shitty edition) or a nvidia LE(Looser Edition), both offer extremely low performance compared to their normal or Pro/GT or XT/Ultra editions. Since you have AGP 4x any thing over a 59XX or 9800 would be bottlenecked my AGP 4x. 9800 Pro is the best, for what your using/doing with it.

Here ya go $60 ATI 9800SE and there is a good chance you can softmod the card into a real 9800

                        9600 http://www.pcprogress.com/product.as...00128OEM&m1=pg
                        9550 http://www.compuvest.com/Search.jsp?...dvsite=grabber
                        9550 http://www.clubit.com/product_detail...C-pr1c3grabb3r
                        9550 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...t-20/ref=nosim
You just gotta know where to look
But I would buy from newegg or the ATI 9800SE
