  • Expansion packs for ps2

I am planning on buying ffxi for ps2 with the HDD and all that stuff. I was wondering if any expansion packs come with that perticular bundle or not? What expansion packs do I need to get?

I'm guessing you're planning on getting it off of Ebay? I'm not aware of any retailer still selling the HDD/game pack.
Anyway, it comes with the basic game + Rize of Zilart. You'll need to purchase Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urghan separately.
    Good luck.
And make sure you're getting the codes and such from whomever is selling off of Ebay. Someone who plays on PS2 could better explain what all you need to make sure you're not getting a bum deal.

I know Rise of the Zilart comes with it. I think you'll need to buy Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan.

You can find both Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan on Amazon.com.

yeah, I was thinking about ebay. I found it at target.com, but 100 dollars for the a game that is like 5+years old seems kinda stiff.
What do you mean when you talk about codes. Do you need a subscription code for playonline? Is that the only place that you can get a code?

Yeah, there are the cd codes and then an account code that come with game. I have zero experience with this as a secondhand game, so I'm not sure which ones you'll need and which ones you can get new ones of. Buying it off Ebay is fine, but you'll definately want to pay attention to Seller rating on this kind of thing. If they don't give you everything you need, then you have an expensive paper weight.

The game was always $100...... something. (I cant remember)
But geting the ps2 version with all the exp packs is going to be very expensive at this point. Infact it might be worth it to consider upgradeing your computer if you want to try FFXI. Due to you were looking into the PS2 version im guessing you dont have a XBOX360.

My computer kinda sucks. I was going to buy a 360 when halo 3 came out. Then I realized that ffxi was only 30 dollars for the 360 version. So I was gonna buy it for that but I was reading some review about how they broke fairly easily.

Now I'm back to trying to get it for the ps2. My friend has it for ps2; can I use his expansion packs? You just upload the expansion pack onto your HDD and then you have no further use for the expansion disk right?

You'll still need to register the expansions, and they can only be tied to one name.

                So no.

You can use your friend's expansion packs, actually. If you insist on getting the PS2 version (PC version is so much better IMO) I suggest the following.

Get your HDD and copy of PS2 game by whatever way you deem appropriate (ebay, target). It's okay if you get a used copy, as I have a solution. Pop the HDD in the PS2, install from the disk.

Buy the Vanadiel Collection for like $30. This is the PC version of the game. If you want Treasures of Aht Urghan, buy the PC version of that too. You mainly want it for the registration codes, which is what SE cares about anyway.

Setup your Playonline account and FFXI content IDs on your PS2 version using your registration codes from the PC version.

You should be good to go. You have your PS2 software all set up and your account set up. Plus, you also have a copy of the PC software in case you upgrade your computer in the future and decide to play on that. -=WARNING=- PC version is DVD. If you upgrade, make sure you slap in a DVD drive.

I originally started on the PS2, I have since switched to PC. I bought the Vanadiel Collection for the PC software and just used the same account I originally started on my PS2. I have since used my Vanadiel Collection registration codes to start another account on my PS2. This is proof that the registration codes are not tied to a specific platform. I imagine that the X360 version would work the same way.

The computer in my house is a family computer so often my brother has to use it for homework or my dad wants to look at houses in colorado or my mom wants to look up some recipe that she heard about. I would be told to get off of it quite frequently because all of those things stated above take proirity over video games.

One of my friends that has the PC version of the game was talking about a guest login system. He also told me that your first character costs arould 14 dollars and each additional character costs 1 dollar.

So my question is can I just create an charater on his account on his computer and just use the guest login system to access it or do I need my own account to be able to login, even as a guest?

If I could login via the guest login system, would I be able to play with him or would it boot me out when he logs in as his charater?

Guest login system is designed so that whatever the ID/Pass won't be recorded on that system, nothing more or less, and intended to be used when you try to login from places like internet cafe or friend's house. Whether it's a "normal" loging or guest login, you do need an account.

Although you can create a character on your friend's account, you can't play together. Like you suspected, it would "boot me out when he logs in as his charater." So if you wanna play together w/ him, you need your own account, paying 12.95/month. Not to mention you playing on his account means he has to give you the full login information, which he shouldn't be doing in the first place.
