  • nvidia drivers conflicting with FFXI?

I use nvidia Geforce 5200 FX, and since the recent updates i keep getting errors, my screen freezing, computer restarting (when starting/running PoL or FFXI). When it restarts, it gives me an error about the drivers not being capable of finishing something, possibly causing system instability.

Could the new patches cause this, is there a way to fix it, and does it happen to anyone else?

Note: I installed the newest drivers from the official website, and it's still happening.

Compatibility has been confirmed for the following graphics cards using the "NVIDIA ForceWare(TM) Ver. 56.64" driver.

    - GeForce FX series (compatibility only confirmed with "Bump Mapping" disabled in Final Fantasy XI Config)

How to disable the Bump Mapping setting in Windows XP
    1. Run "FINAL FANTASY XI Config"
(accessed via "Start"--> "Programs"-->"PlayOnline"-->"Final Fantasy XI"-->"Final Fantasy XI Config")
    2. Open the "3D Map" tab and uncheck "BumpMap Enable." Click "Close."
    3. When the "Save settings?" screen is displayed, click "Yes."

IMPORTANT: You cannot run the configuration tool while running FINAL FANTASY XI and PlayOnline.

so far, i haven't heard of any compatabilty problems reported with the 5200. this last patch has been a bit flaky, but haven't heard of reboots either.

might want to run a virus scan on your pc or try using the SE tested nvidia drivers:

i have my biggest problems when i'm in kazham. i go through the planks almost every time I go towards nomad moogle or weather checker. my complaints to SE (a.k.a. the evil empire) has gone nowhere.

The last set of drivers Nvidia released were horrible and caused problems for me with all sorts of things. The best drivers for FFXI I've found are the 84.21s. Even Escape works properly with these whereas other versions have stuttered and often crashed completely when this spell goes off with a full party.

I have an FX 5700LE; I did a Tech support call through POL (which took about 2 hours for a response) and was directed to the data posted above. With the downgraded drivers, FFXI works just fine. In fact, my brother's ATI card crashes on the Character Creation Screen when it's not in Simple mode but mine does not. It used to crash when I was

In Character Creation (w/o Simplified Visuals)
On the elevator in the Metalworks
            When zoning into several areas
            Sometimes (apparently) completely at random
