  • Failure to load Direct3D

I have a problem logging onto FF to play.I get a failed to load Direct3d It tells me to make sure my PC has the requirments to play FF.

    I have a amd 3200 (venice)
    6600 gt run in PCI-E
    1 gb corsair ram

I just downloaded the benchmark 2 to see if something was wrong with my VC and I scored 4400 on the benchmark.

The only thing I have changed in my set up is i bought a 19inch lcd monitor but that shouldnt be the problem.

    Any advice

I updated my VC drivers to 91.?? from the nvidia site.Im stuck and clueless

    Re: Failure to load 3D

To my knowledge theres not such thing as a "#D render", But if theres a problem with a object being renderd its something to do with your GFX card. Not much more I can tell you as theres not much info there.

Anything more specific witht he error? Failing to load Direct3D can be cuased by alot of things. But why it works with other games Im not sure. Changing a monitor wont effect it either.

          Re: Failure to load Direct3D

What operating system are you using (I know silly question, but work with me)... This is a known problem with FFXI and PCI-E NVidia cards when using Windows98SE, on driver verision newer than 66.93.

          I'm still researching though.

          EDIT:

If this is the error you are getting:

"Terminated as error occured in FINAL FANTASY XI. Failed to initialize Direct3D. Please check that this computer has the required specifications to run FINAL FANTASY XI. (-1)"

Then here are some things you should try (if possible).

Stop using XU (yeah, biased, i mean completely) (I'm nto saying you are using it, but if you are, try launching the game without it).

Shutdown Fraps, and try to run the game.
Shutdown NView (NVidia control panel applet for your systray)...

no problem, I'm just posting things as i find thing that can cause the problem.

Check the power cable on your video card, and make sure that it's the only device on the cable.

hmm I was getting odd errors on my Geforce 6600 GT, i took a spare hdd off of the same power lead, and the errors went away.

Does it have a port in the video card, for a 12v lead? (Like the plug that goes into a hdd or cdrom drive?)

                    Re: Failure to load Direct3D

You will also recieve that error if you are trying to play in a screen resolution that your monitor cannot handle, i.e. trying to do 2048x2048 on a CRT TV when its highest resolution is 1024x768 (Or sttempting to play in some wild resolution like 122x16).
Almost four years experience playing FFXI. I am a Raccoon, not a Hyena--despite my name states I am one.

Get creative and pretend these happened.

                      Re: Failure to load Direct3D

Try adjusting the Video Card drivers down to version 81.98. Anything higher then that hasn't been confirmed by SE as functioning correctly for the GeForce 6 series.

I'm guessing you updated to 91.31 version, that one hasn't been tested or confirmed by SE as usable. May be the reason you are getting that error.

Have 3 computers with different GeForce series (2 different 5 series, and a 7 series). The 5 series only worked with the 56.64 version if I went higher then that it started having 3D Rendering issues.

Benchmark still runs even when 3D Rendering issues are occuring. You see the 3D rendering issue occur during the benchmark in the form of the models blinking, disappearing as camera moves, or dissappearing as object moves.

Also make sure that you didn't somehow downgrade your DirectX version. You should be able to run "dxdiag.exe" to see what version of DirectX you currently have on the system. FFXI requires that DirectX be version 8.1 or higher.

Just dropping in to say how it was fixed.Maybe since I hooked up a new monitor it went bact to default setting and my monitor didnt support it.I dont know but it works now.
