    Gigabyte Motherboard LGA775 Intel GA-8I848P775-G

    http://www.gpstore.co.nz/Hardware/1475342.html

Im pretty shore my crappy $70.00 NZ motherboard is what is causing me the lag.

If you think this motherboard is good, and can handle my Gainward 6800 Gt video card, let me know.

Yes it will handle the video card, but you will be limited in upgrade options in the future. Your next upgrades will probably require you to replace this board as it doesn't have PCI-E or support newer intel processors.

It's doubtful your existing motherboard is causing performance problems in the game.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

HTTP Error 418 - I'm A Teapot - The resulting entity body MAY be short and stout.

Re: Is this a good motherboard?

IN FFXI it lags very bad when i come across 4 people or even rabbits on my screen.

The main reason i am changing motherboards is because i cannot efford to change to PCI yet. Gainward 6800 Gt cost me $475 NZ for it, second hand and it does it's jobs in most games. But this FFXI i dont know whats the problem, i sort of thinking this game is not using my video card at all, after playing a couple of hours of lag in FFXI i quitt the game and check the temp and it is still hanging around 35 degress, when i play oblivion it goes up to about 65.

Re: Is this a good motherboard?

The problem is probably your video card drivers. At least in part anyway, FFXI and nVidia cards don't seem to play together nicely. Go to PlayOnline.com and check the latest supported driver version and install those, that might help.

I'd tell you what they are, but the new POL site doesn't work with Konqueror.

          Double Post Edited:
Oh, and rabbits are scary even when they don't cause lag.

Re: Is this a good motherboard?

I've tried that to, there is no difference for me anyway with the lastest drivers.

            CPU: P4 3.4 ghz
            RAM:1 GB
            Video: Nvida Gainward 6800 GT

Im pretty shore my pc can handle this 5 times over, but it cant and i dont know what to do, i am shore it is my motherboard which is a MSI 915 GLM-V.

Also, when i installed 81.98 drivers, i already had the lastest version, which is the 91.31 version.

is there any chance when i changed back to 81.98 would of caused problems, i only unistall drivers with add remove programs.

i am back to using 91.31 again.

There's nothing wrong with your motherboard (yours and the one you linked to are almost the same), its your video card and drivers.

Make sure the bios and chipset drivers are up to date, and that the video card hasn't decided to do something stupid like drop to 4x agp. Virus and malware scans yada yada yada.

Unless there is something physically wrong with the motherboard, changing it for the one you linked won't do anything.

It seems that MSI has a utility to do it all for you called LiveUpdate http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=657&kind=1

It probably won't fix anything though.

Nope didnt fix anything, i had also recently reinstalled XP but there was no luck then. I wonder why it lags very bad, and other games run sweet. It lags only when i come accross other players or monsters and it isnt nice lag at all. 3 - 6 fps.

Anyway it's forceware drivers version 66.93 unless that card is incompatible with that version in which case you want to try 81.98. However even with those driver versions nVidia cards often have problems with FFXI.

Going all the way back to 66.93 may cause problems with other games even if they do support your card.

Re: Is this a good motherboard?

Fine motherboard to bad I also think it will unfortunately do nothing to help.

Since you already upgraded your drivers, I don't think its the drivers per say but it could be the settings that your video card is using.

What resolution are you trying to run this game at ?
Did you make a Application Profile for pol.exe?
Have you done any reg tweaks to the game?

You bought a super expensive top of the line (well at one point)video card so im kinda lead to be leave that your Nvidia profile settings might be causing some of your problems with Ffxi. (since it was top of the line your manufacturer could of modified the drivers that originally shipped with the card)

Ffxi can be picky about some seatings, anti aliasing comes to mind as something Ffxi can have issues with. But there are other settings that also mess with Ffxi so making a new profile for pol.exe and making sure anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering are application controlled and change image settings to quality.

In bios you could try and change your AGP Speed to 4X this is a long shot but it can help with overclocked videocards, stability, and issues in some games. (not sure about Ffxi)

And remember Ffxi is mostly limited by your memory and cpu
And check out BIOS Optimization Guide

double your ram. will make a bigger difference than changing motherboards. your next motherboard upgrade should be one with pci express. the new pentium cpus will be out soon and amd is lowering the price of their 939 since releasing the new socket am2. im running a monster myself: amd opteron cpu @2700 mhz, asus a8n slix32, 2 gbs corsair pc3500llpro ram, 2x 7900gtx all on a 3mb dsl internet connection. i still get lag at times. i can tell some of it is game coding other times its nvidia drivers. i have scored 8998 on vana benchmark 3 on high settings. good luck in getting it closer to acceptable.
