I was wondering do i need a DvD drive to play this game or is it possible to play with just a cd drive. I hope that i can play with a cd drive cause i wont be able to play otherwise
If you don't have a DVD drive, you won't be able to install the game onto your PC directly. That said, if you're a part of a network, you can install it on another PC and transfer it over.
Or just shell out a meager few dollars for a DVD drive. They are fairly common these days and not that expensive.
As in buy a DVD drive that you can connect to your computer. It would be fairly ridiculous to suggest you buy an entirely new PC just to play.
I'd suggest checking somewhere like Newegg.com for one, but if you'd rather just run down to your local Best Buy, you can find something like this which will do the trick just fine.
I edited with a link to one at Best Buy in my last post. You can generally find them at or around $50. Sometimes lower if you shop around, sometimes higher if you don't.
how bad would it be if i didnt buy the expansion pack treasures of whatever would i still be able to play till i got enough money for it. And if i can play how badly will it affect me for making my first character. Because from what i've read it seems like it is higher-end content
Well, if you have an older version of the game, you could install it just fine. But if you have the Vana'diel Collection (Gold Box), then it's also DVD-Rom so you're kind of screwed.
And no, you don't need to buy the expansion right away. In fact, I'd suggest against it if this is your first time with FFXI. If you find that you like the game, then buy the expansion. If not, you didn't just spend $50 on something you don't need.
so if i buy the all in one set and buy the dvd drive i should be good till next month when i should have the money. Cool thanks so much its not every day you find someone as helpful as yourself. People like you set a good example for the community now i wanna play even more. Thanks again
Well, that's a different story altogether. If I could afford a new PC...well, actually I don't need a new PC. I just need more RAM and a better video card (and I could use a sound card, I guess), and I'll be set for a few more years.
But if you have the resources to just buy a new PC, have at it. :D
