Do you guys find it hard to use the controller then the keyboard to type? It seems like this would be a problem if you have to say something (not macro-ed) in the midst of a fight.

Does the PS2 to USB converter cause a lag in command? Are they sturdy enough to endure some abuse (geting knocked about, pushed against the connectors by accident, etc)?

Do wireless controllers ever lag or lose signal? I think I would like one, but not if there's a chance of a lost signal or something.

...and thanks for the posts, its been far more informative than I thought it would be.
Controller monstrocity? lol... it's the same size as a PS2 wirelesss controller. It's not much bigger expcept for the battery compartment.
As far as the signal goes, it doesn't ever lose it, even when the batteries are "dying". It's not expensive either.

As far as talking with the controller? LOL... you NEED a keyboard to type.

16 inches actually, a regular keyboard is about 20 inches. So like I've said many times, its not that big.

Oh that... it's not that big either. The keyboard is roughly the size of a laptop keyboard... buttons are easy to press... I have that too. That's the keyboard I use for my PS2.

It's also a matter of comfort for you.

I've played using Logitech's Wireless Rumblepad 2 for the last 10 months, but switched out to the Xbox 360 Control for windows, because of the relaxed grip of the controller in my hands.

If you already happen to have an Xbox 360, the Xbox 360 Control for Windows, can double as a Controller for your Xbox 360 gaming system.

Here's where you can most commonly find it:

Side note: For those who would complain about the lack of being able to use the left and right triggers, these are the drivers you want to use. Although not the official Microsoft Drivers, they are much better.

Of the controllers out there, these two brands were the best I have had the pleasure of using.

I swear by my logitech rumblepad 2, only costs 20-30$ and makes macros, moving and everything else much easier. being able to lounge back and relax while not needing to type is also a plus.

I got a controler today, and maybe I am just stupid, but how do I enable it in the ingame options?

                      Re: CPU Controller, Good? Bad?

The best game controller ever is the Playstation/Playstation 2 Dual shock. Something like 3-5 years ago, I got the USB adapter that was far from popularity, and I had to order it from Europe due to its rarity.

The reason it's so great is the PS2 controller was just an upgrade from the SNES, which was an upgrade from the NES. The best four button controller that existed. (If you count Start/Select)

Today I own the same device, and have played nearly every PC game possible using playstation controllers. Recently I bought a Mad Catz PS2 Dual Shock and, the thing everyone who owns a Mad Catz knows, there's always a catch. Fortunately the gamepad is awesome (outlived all of my Sony controllers by far), and the only catch to this one was the button labels wore off, but I know by now which one is Triangle.

Then there are games that simply don't go well with a gamepad. This started about the time of Quake when the mouse was the only way to aim, or Diablo where you click to run. These are nearly impossible to play efficiently with a gamepad.

Long story short, FFXI was designed to be played with a gamepad (And better yet, one with analog sticks for camera motion), so it's very natural when used with one, as long as it has 10 buttons.

And if keyboard is your thing, then go for it.

                        Re: CPU Controller, Good? Bad?

Oh yeah. the game plays a whole lot better with a game pad. I think one of the main complaints is the clunky interface/UI, not a problem at all with a gamepad. I am glad I picked one up today

Good! Glad you're enjoying the game more now with a controller. Even my son, that plays mainly FPS's on the PC, prefers a controller for FFXI.

Yeah, I tried using keyboard only for FFXI, and it's just much easier with the controller.

Oh yah, TGM, did you know "Corpse" was mispelled right above your avatar? I don't know how I noticed that, lol.

I don't think TGM gave herself that title.

On Topic: I'm still trying to get used to playing with a controller. I picked up a Logitech Rumblepad or whatever a few weeks ago, and it's been a really tough transition for me. I'm waiting for that ease and comfort that everyone else talks about to come to me, but mostly I just feel crippled without my key commands. It's possible that the gamepad just isn't for me.

Yah, you're right. It's the Member thingie. Sorry TGM.

How long have you been playing without the controller? I played for 2 yrs on PS2 before I got it for my new PC, so it was a must for me to pick up a Logitech for it so it can still be easy for me.
