  • CPU Controller, Good? Bad?

I.m just getting back into the game and I'm playing on a laptop. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with PC game controllers. Is it easier, harder? Can you recommend any paticular brand?

Some people swear by controllers. I, on the other hand, swear by my keyboard... I'd go with whichever you think you'd prefer. If you really want, there are USB converters for Gamecube/Xbox/PS2 controllers out there too.

Or you can wait for TheGrandMom to post about the keyboard/controller combos. (If she'll even be on today, after her bad UPS incident.) She'd have links to where you could buy them too.

My preferred way of playing the game is using a PS2 controller on PC. It's what it was intended to be played with, and you're verly likely to understand why if you give it a shot.

I have a USB adapter for PS2 controllers. Tried it, didn't like it. >_>a

I tried the PS2 controller + Radio Shack USB/PS2 adaptor on my laptop, but it was extreeeemely laggy...
...But my laptop is a little laggy to begin with (older slower CPU).

laptop + keyboard for fishing = doable, gives me repetitive stress injury

PS2 + controller for fishing = good, but graphics make me go blind

laptop + PS2 controller for fishing = way too slow

If you do end up using a PS2 controller for your PC, I recommend you have a very fast PC so that the controller driver doesn't slow things down.

I use a controller with my laptop. I got my adapter at Radio Shack and everything works like a charm. I usually receommend the Logitech NetPlay for PC/PS2 users but laptops are a bit different. If you're using it as a true laptop then you really don't need a controller/keyboard combo. If your using it as a desktop computer you might want to check into it.

                http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

And yes it does look huge but no it is not. The keyboard is slightly smaller than an average laptops keyboard. It's very comfortable to use because it lets you rest your arms naturally at your sides and there is no putting down the controller, grabbing the keyboard to type, putting down the keyboard and picking the controller back up again. But like I said, using a laptop is a bit different and even I use just a regular PS2 controller with my laptop. But for my desktop PC and my PS2, this is the ONLY controller my family and I use!

                  Re: CPU Controller, Good? Bad?

I just didn't like the feel/control/switching from keyboard to controller. (More TheGrandMom bait!) It's just a matter of preference. You can't really tell the keyboard users apart from the controller users (unless they're on a console and don't have a keyboard at all to talk with).

I honestly do recommend the controller/keyboard combo if you're a fan of controllers. You can probably search around for it. It's made by logitech, if that's any help.

Edit: There she is! I knew she'd have the link.

I use a standard PS2 Dual Shock with a Radio Shack PSX>USB converter and I love it. The controller is familiar, works great, is easily replaced if it malfunctions, and is pretty comfortable too, being small and lightweight.

I use a Saitek P880 Dual Analog and would never go back to using a keyboard now. Having a gamepad just makes the game so much better for me

                          Re: CPU Controller, Good? Bad?

I dont know about that controller monstrocity, I play mostly at home but I also get on a bit at work (Night Auditor at a hotel, lots of freetime). I also dont have much space in my small appartment.

Do you guys find it hard to use the controller then the keyboard to type? It seems like this would be a problem if you have to say something (not macro-ed) in the midst of a fight.

Does the PS2 to USB converter cause a lag in command? Are they sturdy enough to endure some abuse (geting knocked about, pushed against the connectors by accident, etc)?

Do wireless controllers ever lag or lose signal? I think I would like one, but not if there's a chance of a lost signal or something.

...and thanks for the posts, its been far more informative than I thought it would be.

ROFL!! You make it sound like its a piece of furniture that you don't have room for in your apartment! Like I said, it isn't that big. The keyboard is slightly smaller than an average laptop keyboard. The entire thing, compared to my desktop keyboard, is as big as my keyboard if you would take off the number pad. Thats a width assessment only. Look at it like this, you're going to use a keyboard and a controller right? Well this would actually be smaller. LOL This doesn't have the number pad a keyboard does so that makes it smaller and the controller part is just like they cut a PS2 controller in half and stuck each half on each end.
