does anyone know how to type japanese on the PS2 keyboard? I got the setting on japanese but I dunno how to toggle the different typings.
thank you
Unless you are playing the Japanese PS2 version, you can't input Japanese. You can set the keyboard layout to Japanese, but it will still only input Roman characters. All it will effectively do on the US version is swap a few characters arounf, like swapping the " and @ symbols and stuff like that. The IME is forcibly disabled in the non-Japanese versions, can only be enabled with hacks on the PC versions, and cannot be enabled at all on non-Japanese console versions.
If you have the Japanese version, you can input Japanese text even with the keyboard layout set to American English. it's not a matter of the keyboard layout you are using. It's a matter of the IME being accessible.
We petitioned at the US PC launch to have the IME be accessible, but Square refused, and some of the people with connections here said it was because Square licenses the IME from ATOK (home licenses are about $60 US each), and has to pay ATOK a fee for each copy of the game they sell that has the IME usable. Since they figured most European and American users wouldn't even know how to use the IME, meaning it would either go unused or would generate many tech support calls, they forcibly disabled it in all non-Japanese clients.
