Connection problem - my situation.

I have a tv and PS2 set up in my office that I share with my roommate, we're paying for 2 IP addresses and using a switch. I was trying to set up FFXI on sunday using my PS2 to try and get back into it after a bit of a hiatus so I took the ethernet cable from my computer, still connected to the switch and plugged it into the PS2 and started up playonline setting it to acquire IP and DNS automatically and I don't think I put any other info in, tried to start it up and of course it doesn't connect. So I have a couple of questions

1) is this the right forum?
2) How do I get this to work?
3) Will I need to order a 3rd IP address for this game?
