    Can't remember how I got my psx to usb adapter to work

    I quit playing the game last June, but I just reinstalled and am trying to play again, but I can't get my ps2 controller to work on my pc anymore. I have two different adapters, a blue one with two ports, and the radioshack adapter. Now, I was pretty sure it was the radioshack adapter I used to use, and it works fine in windows config, and in the ffxi controller setup menu, but it does not work inside POL. Does anybody remember the trick to getting this to work, or the correct drivers needed?

    I played the game for almost two years with this controller, I don't really want to learn to use the keyboard setup. Any help would be appreciated.

    I use the radioshack adapter too. Have used it since I started on PC 3+ years ago and as far as I can remember, it's never worked in POL. I've always had to use the mouse til I got in-game

      I know I had it working in both before, but I can't get it to work even in the game anymore. It works fine in the config utility, just not in the game. Do you use the windows drivers, or do you use other ones?

        To get it to work in POL, you must also use the config setup inside the POL Config folder. There's a controller setup option in there, and the controller must be configured in the POL Config, before it will work in POL.

          Ok, so I run it from the POL folder on my drive, not from within POL itself somewhere, correct?

            Yep, Rodin is correct. That is probably your issue. Make sure you set up your controller and test it.

            Start >> Programs >> Playonline >> Final Fantasy XI >> Final Fantasy XI Config >> General Tab >> Gamepad Settings Button >> Final Fantasy XI Gamepad Configuration Tool

            Here is my setup:

            Select/Confirm: Button 3
            Cancel: Button 2
            Active Window: Button 1
            Main Menu: Button 4
            Autorun: Button 5
            Macro Palette (Ctrl): Button 7
            Macro Palette (Alt): Button 8
            PlayOnline: nothing
            Hide Menus: nothing
            Heal/Lock Target: Button 11 (press down on joystick)
            Change View: Button 12 (press down on joystick)
            Take Screenshot: nothing (I use the Print Screen button on my keyboard)
            Operate menus with movement controls: nothing
            Operate camera with movement controls: nothing
            Toggle movement, etc: nothing

            Next Row:

            Check the Enable Gamepad box please! LOL
            Gamepad Options box: everything is checked
            All the buttons below that are self explanitory but make sure you use the Test Gamepad button and click Ok when you have all the settings the way you want them.

              I had already used the FFXI Config utility to enable, setup, and test my gamepad. Everything works fine in there. I then save the settings and start up the game, but the gamepad does not work in either POL, or in the actual game.

                Far as drivers go I used the drivers Windows auto-installed when I plugged it in to my usb port. Maybe try uninstalling it in your Add/Remove Hardware and reinstall it fresh.

                  Yeah, I've tried both the default Win XP drivers, and the drivers on the disk that came with it, and drivers I've download. No luck with any of them.

                    Well, I updated all of the windows update items, including SP2 to see if it helped. I made sure all drivers were uninstalled, and I used the POL config utility. All of that, and then I realized the problem (I think) was something to do with my joystick I had plugged in to another USB port. I unplugged that, and the gamepad works fine!

                      When I plug mine in, Windowx XP detects and installs it automatically... I know the floppy drive thing that came with it was broken.

                        Well, now I can post again. Figured out what my problem was. Ok, now I guess I'll have to take a picture and show you, because you dont' understand what I'm saying.

                        Go here:


                        NOT TO THIS ONE:


                        Then go into this menu:



                        Then tweak your controller settings in that menu. DO NOT GO INTO FFXI CONFIG. That will do nothing. In order to use the controller in POL, you must open the POL file.

                        Now please, tell me that works, because that was annoying to do. (._.)
