lil help?

Sorry, I didn't know where to put this.
I just got the game today for PC and it's been quite a struggle getting things updated. How do I register the expansions? I tried to follow the manual but it either leads to dead ends or the options just don't seem to be there. Can anyone give me a step by step or something just so I can get through this? I just want to play the game.

Load POL > games > final fantasy xi > content ids > register expansion

Alright, I've loaded playonline but there is no tab called games. Where should it be?

i know your pain. 13k worth of files to download. im basically reading it say " will be done in 10 hrs" what killin me is im getting pol errors along the way. so i waste a good 15-30 minutes preparing the update each time for 13k files.

Dang... and I was JUST about to help, too, like i always do...

Glad you fingered it out, though. That puts you one step closer to becoming an asset, rather than a hinderance in the game.

btw, you can buy stuff from local vendors for crafting...

Just another q, is it normal for POL to keep losing the connection while it's trying to update the files? Is there a way to prevent it from happening? If it happened so much during the updates, it doesn't seem to be a good sign. I don't want it to keep bumping me out of the game every 10 min or so.

edit: Also, is there a way to download the updates indavidually? I don't like the fact that POL keeps checking the files (most had already been downloaded) every time the connection was lost. I really think it was a mistake to have the update all one process. It should have been split into the updates. Then it should tell you how many updates there are and such. It seems like a terrible setup.

probably your connection.
The POL will check file everytime before it starts downloading patch. So if you don't want it to check you'll have to complete the patch.

I'm very suprised by this board. Everyone seems very polite and helpful. Found plenty of great stuff on here so far. I was also traken offguard by the auto edit of my double post. If all board had that, it would clean up sooo much, lol.

You might wanna, once again, configure the ports on your router to completely allow FFXI. Check Official POL Website for port ranges.

yeah i thought about this after it was all done. but a better route would have been to load the different games seperately. FFXI load all those files. install Zilart expansion, then load those packets an patches. then installed the CoP expansion, an download those files.

it might have been more work for me. but i prob would have avoided the 3 pol errors, an the 30 minutes it took for it to go thru all 13k files. it did end up being around 2 hrs just for it to do that.

Just to start off, PotentPotables, I've been to some rough boards, lol. This is extremely polite so far.

Next, I am trying to get my router configured properly. On Allakhazam, they have a trouble shooting spot and it says I need to open up the ports: -TCP 25, 80, 110, 443 -UDP 50000 - 65535. I think I understand how to do the UDP one with my router but I don't understand the TCP one. For port start to end, UDP seems to be start-50000 and end-65535. Is this right? What is the TCP start to end?
