  • PC, PS2 and Xbox differences

I knew that the Xbox 360 would have more impressive graphics than the PC version, but recently I learned that many effects (such as shine on armor/weapons, etc) that occur in the PS2 version are not in the PC version.

I know how complicated it would be to upgrade the PC version to have those things, but this community seems to keep surprising me. Has anyone attempted this?

If not, does SE plan on upgrading the PC client at any point?

maybe he's taking about a very low spec pc in which the "shine" looks nothing but a big white dot? but as long as the minimum spec is met, i don't think that'll happen anyways.

I haven't seen the 360 graphics yet in person but I doubt a 360 will outperform most of the PC's running FFXI right now except for the draw distance. And even then, there's a patch of sorts that enables that on the PC version also so....

The 360's graphics are only really nice on a HDTV anyways. On a regular TV it looks like the original XBox.

I see 'shine' on my pc screen too, but it's very mild. What prompted me to post this was a in a dark knight guide on this site.

"This blade usually runs for about 600-800K in the AH and isn't very impressive looking, using the exact same shell as the Braveheart. The entire blade is a crisp sterling silver and reflects a ton of light on the PS2 version of the game. PC users don't get the lightshow, unfortunately.

Re: PC, PS2 and Xbox differences

I'm playing the xbox version via a vga adapter on my LCD screen, and besides a nice framerate jump from the ps2 version and a better draw distance i don't see much of an improvement.

I still get lag and frame drops near AH's, still get texture tearing / glitching etc.

Maybe I sill see a bigger difference when I upgrade to a widescreen HDTV

I have played on all 3.

                Playstation 2

PC - Dual nVidia Graphics Cards.

And X360 on my HDTV Widscreen.

By far X360 Looks the best. You can actually see stuff like rain drops (looks like real rain). And you see reflections in armor, aswell as dirt particles kicking up, etc. PC has best Framerate.

if anyone can run through lower jeuno without dropping framerate i'd really like to see your pc specs...

I forget that xbox has all effects and etc turned on so i guess the framerate we do get is pretty impressive, but I was expecting to have 30fps SOLID on this system considering it's so much more powerful than the PS2.'

Yeah I'm a frame rate whore..

I bet the settings are at low res, how about increasing them, it might work, cause I play on both X360 and PC and they both look exactly the same.

Re: PC, PS2 and Xbox differences

Technical wise the 360 and PC should be capable of similar graphical abilities. If the PC is among the Top 50 Supercomputers then you could push it's graphics to go well beyond what 360 can do. Anything that you can't get the PC version to do with the normal configuration with enough knowledge of the Registry you can force the system to get same results or even push it beyond that.

As another mod here has proven the models done for FFXI have the capability of going to much more impressive display then they are at now.
