  • Installing game on diff system

    Hi all

I only have one copy of the game, and i'm wondering if i can install it on a diff system instead? My laptop cannot run the game, but i've already registered it on this. Is it possible for me to install it on the other pc so i can use my content ids there instead? I plan on uninstalling FFXI from my laptop very soon, and need to know if i'll need another copy of the game. And if i will, i'll be very annoyed. I've already spent £330 on a new pc system, and £35 on the game itself. If i have to buy another copy of the game i shall be EXTREMELY annoyed.

as Rikaku said, yes you can install it again on a seperate PC. However, to save you the time of updates, after you install on your new PC, mount your drive on the laptop and copy over all the files from your playonline directory. it will take some time, but it's much faster than updating over the internet. when you start the game again, it'll complain that some files are not correct (or something like that). just hit retry and it will be ok.

      Thanks Yyg!

we have five copies of the game the game in my household, and six accounts. we've mixed and matched CDs (our five + my girlfriends accounts) running on several computers. The game doesn't care one way or the other which CDs are used to install, which accounts are on which games. The only thing that really matters is that each copy is registered to a different account. As long as thats kept in order, it doesn't really matter.

Your POL ID affects whether you can play the game or not. As long as you know it, you can play on any platform in any region that has the game installed. Installing the game is completely possible on any platform that can support it, but is useless without having an account to use it with. Remember how you didn't need to use any registration codes until creating an account?

To answer your question again, and add a little too - yes you can reinstall on another machine, you will need to make sure you know your username, password, POL ID, password, email details, and email password if any are different.

What you apparently cant do, is register your details on a US install, remove it, install an EU client then change your content ID information on the EU version if they originated from the US.

            /pant

            Apparently, anyway.

I've ordered the Vana'diel collection DVD from the US (Im an importer) and hope that this will save me some time if I ever need to reinstall (and be handy if I ever need to start another account for a friend). When reinstalling from the original disks, I usually have to leave my machine on overnight to get all the updates on my cruddy 1mb broadband line.
