Can't Log into FFXI

Hi guys, I've been having this connection problem for about 6 months now. This problem only occurs when I'm using my computer at home. Basically, I'm able to log into POL and even go all the way to FFXI's term of service prompt, but then I get a FFXI-3101 error everytime. I used to have ZoneAlarm, which I suspected to be the problem, however, I uninstalled that and made sure WinXP's firewall wasn't on, but I still kept getting the problem. I don't understand what's wrong, because every other function on my computer works, I can play any other game online, I can DL stuff just fine. Only FFXI costs me problem, does anyone know how I can possibiliy find what went wrong and what I can do to fix it? I reinstalled FFXI at least 7 times over the period and this problem is really driving me crazy

maybe you're router is blocking the port?

Is there anyway I can check? I'm using a standard router that my DSL provider gave me.

Also you could try to take it to a Pc-shop.. they usually can figure out what's causing it. (Go to a small shop.. as they have more time and help more particular customers. )

Hey guys, I figured out what's wrong. I think my ISP is blocking the port FFXI is using. I've installed the game at a friend's place who is using the same ISP as myself, and he gets FFXI-3101 as well. I think I'm gonna call my ISP and see if they can somehow fix this. Do you guys know what I should tell my ISP for them to do to get FFXI working?

generally the ISP shouldn't be blocking the ports for you... >.>

who is your provider?
are you living on a college campus?
do you have a router? if so, check the ports which are blocked/open... find out the router ip (normally 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on which router you use - check the manual)

I'm in Shanghai atm, and there is only one ISP here. Basically my friend and I both use the same ISP. So basically I eliminated the possibility that this is a hardware problem or it's a problem with my computer. I don't think I'm using a router, I just have the basic ADSL modem that came with the connection, so is there anything i can do?

well there shouldn't be anything wrong with your computer since you're not running any sort of firewall. mmm you can try contacting your ISP and seeing if they can tell you how to unblock ports, otherwise what modem are you using (model #, etc.)? are you directly connected to the modem?

Its most likely your modem/router. Routers have default firewalls enabled onto them. If they decided to change the default username and password for administration then your outta luck unless you can convince them to give it to you.

Try and enable uPnP in network settings. If your lucky and the router have uPnP enabled then this should solve the port issue.
