Regarding ingame resolution and LCD monitors.

Let's say that I have an LCD monitor with a maximum resolution of 1440 x 900.



I understand that the highest ingame resolution possible is 2048 x 2048. Because my maximum resolution that my LCD monitor can support is 1440 x 900, does that mean that I will not be able to achieve an ingame resolution of 2048 x 2048?

Ya, it'll be possible to get the background resolution of the game to 2048x2048, but you'd need a good video card for that.

I'm actually building a computer and I do not have the monitor yet. I'm still looking for a monitor that will look great with all of my games. I do know however that I will be getting an eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256MB card. I might upgrade the monitor and downgrade the quality of say my keyboard & mouse combo. It is nice to know that Final Fantasy XI allows one to change their resolution ratio. I thought that if I played the game on a widescreen LCD that I would get two black bars on the left and right sides of the screen. I originally bought Final Fantasy XI for the PS2 but I just couldn't get myself to play because of the resolution. I'm happy to know that the PC version will fix those issues and that it will bring better quality gameplay.
