I was going to download the update (POL only update?) and in the middle of
downloading I got one of those connection errors, so I tried again but this time it says that I have to reinstall ;;

Maybe the old .dll's would help? Help ;;

Solution:

Run>>regedit

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnline\InstallFolder

You might notice that value 001 is blank; put in the path to FFXI.

i.e. C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\

The POL patch system is the worst I have ever seen.

Oh thank god, you are a life saver. I called support and they told me there was no way to get around the messag saying your last update did not install properly, please re-install FFXI. I bantered with them for a good 10 minutes trying to get them to show me how to do this, but they stuck with the textbook answer. I knew there had to be a way to do this but I just didn't know where. Thanks so much.

Yea, my dload stopped at 99% and it stood there for a good 30 min, i had to shut down pol with task manager, when i tried to run it again it said the game had to be reinstalled... so i came here made a search and ding D:

Mine did the same thing cept i re-installed...twice then came here sure enough it was missing -.- so yay i get to make my macros all over again >.< updating currently thanks for the help it works
