Need help with ideal graphics settings

Hey everyone, just coming back from a very long break, and now that I've reinstalled the game, I have no idea what the settings really mean, so I was hoping you guys could give me some pointers. I'm sure my computer specs would help a bit, so here's a small summary.


Intel Pentium 4, 1.9 GHz
512 MB of RAM
128 MB ATI Radeon 9600 Series
HDD 40 GB (about 27 GB of free space)

I'm using the most recent catalyst drivers from www.ati.com, but perhaps there may be other drivers that are better?

Well, I'll be fiddling with it for now, but if any of you pros can give me a hand it'd be well appreciated.

It should run 1024 settings and all that other stuff fine, but will depend somewhat on what you're doing in ffxi.

You might want to go down to 800 for the really big animation areas.

I for one also lower it to 800 or less in dynamis. It's not just fps, but also menus and targeting move sluggish, and that's pretty crucial.
