Specified contents not found. Installation of PlayOnline compatible software is required. Oh thank you

This is what I get for choosing FFXI over WoW... Sorry I am just very angry over this issue now, its been 2 nights. I bought FFXI and the 2 expansion packs.

I installed playonline in the program files folder, then FFXI in another drive - it didn't work. So I uninstalled playonline and then reinstalled it to the FFXI folder. I didn't work either.

Then, I uninstalled both the game and the playonline software. And now, I reinstalled EVERYTHING in the default folder. It STILL gives me the message.

I haven't installed any of the expansion packs though. Because I just want to get the original game working.

My comp specs:

P4 3Ghz
1Gb RAM
ATi Radeon 9250SE (with latest catalyst driver)

Please, can some on help me? If it'll never work on my comp I might as well just throw it in the bin and buy WoW, or never play another MMORPG

Can someone tell me how to check if playonline knows where my FFXI install path is?

should've worked.

try rebooting, and cleaning up your registry. Then install POL into a new directory followed by FF11 in the same (new) directory as POL (which btw, you should not have installed apart to begin with). Fire up POL and see if you can get into it and FF11 before you proceed to install the expansions.

Everytime I uninstall it it gives me some error running DLL message at the end. Like when I uninstall FFXI, it freezes there at the 100% uninstall progress. I click cancel and it gives the DLL message :/

I'll install all the expansion packs now to see if that even helps though.

EDIT: yep as expected it won't work

reboot first. one of the POL dll's is probably still in use.
then uninstall.

Its only got tetramaster and POL, is it supposed to have FFXI there as well?

erm, yeah I think so.

again, try this:

reboot
uninstall FFXi
uninstall POL
reboot
install POL
install FFXI

-or-

reboot
install POL into new directory
install FFXI into same new directory

Just checekd, yea, it should have FFXI in there... (really intsalling ffxi shouldn't be this hard should it?)

this really isn't going well
its one of the longest games to uninstall. At least 10 minutes to uninstall just FFXI. Then 20 mins to install agn... all up, its about 45 mins gone everytime I uninstall->reinstall everything T_T

At least now I'll just to check files to see if it failed or not.

Can some one please tell me, if there aare any registry keys I have to delete?

Three shouldn't be. Are you following the on screen instructions? And do you have enough free hdd space to install all of this? (only problem I can see why it's not installing).

I eats up about 5 gigs with both the expansion packs installed. I have 7 gigs free in my local hardisk which is enough i think. I am sure it installs in terms of free space, as it reachs 100% in the install progress.

Yea, but what i'm thinking is happeneing is yea it needs 5g free space, but it needs more for unpacking the cab files installing them, and then deleteing them (temp space). I don't knowhow it goes about this, it's been 2 years since I've installed FFXI.

Do you have another HDD with more space? say 10ish?

is what my play online folder is. So, if you're installing to your windows drive you don't have enough space (is why it's locking up and not installing), then when you quit the install it wipes everything off (I'm assumming this is what's happening anyway).

there are a couple of registry keys. the main one i know if is under local computer-software-square enix.

this time, did you get a clean uninstall?

But the game installs and the installer finishes. If its out of space then I'd expect somewhere along the lines it goes "u don't have enough space"

I'll free up more space, because I'll elimintate every possible problem first.

Anyways... FINALLY i uninstalled FFXI :/

and the dll problem comes up (i restarted windows and did not run playonline at all)

Maybe you have some AV or FW or some software interferring with the installation process?

looks like installshield crapped out or something. try this then:

delete registry key (local computer->software->square enix or something like that)
reboot
install POL into new directory
install FFXI into same new directory
