  • POL bright white

i have windower, and it alt tab wouldnt work. so, i started using cntl+alt+delete to get it so i could select my window. then, cntl+alt+delete wouldnt popup anymore when i tried again, and my gbv&c keys wouldnt work either. i pressed hard on b to see if that would work and it lightended my screen to almost white. i can barly read any LS say or shout text, and the problem only stops when i log all the way out of POL. after logged, my desktop is completely normal. when i click on pol again, as it starts up, my screen and desktop turn bright white again, until i log out. anyone know any shortcut keys i could have pressed which made my colors go bad? i called POL and all they told me was to download the new ati driver which did nothing...

i checked in game and all of the gamma colors were normal, but i tried to darken them, and it didnt change anything, i tried messing with my screen settings, also doesnt change anything...

You say you are using a windower. I don't know how many times I have to repeat this but. DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING SQUARE-ENIX TELLS YOU TO WORK IF YOU ARE USING A 3RD PARTY SOFTWARE WITH THEIR PROGRAM!!!.

My god, first off it's clearly written in the ToS that they don't want you to do this. Calling them up expecting help when you've already broken the ToS is unlikely you'll get much help, most of their suggestion is going off the logic that you did not alter their program in any way by use of a 3rd party program.

Most likely the problem you are having is a result of the 3rd party program. I'd suggest wipping your system of the 3rd party program and re-install the POL, that should remove any errors and glitches that may of been a result of using a 3rd party program.

On top of this the 3rd party program you had appears to have some problems. I would suggest if you are capable to monitor your system to make sure that the windower you got wasn't a hacked version and you are not playing host to a hacker wanting to do a DDoS attack.

In the future I seriously suggest not using any 3rd party programs. Especially to use on a program were they clearly stated not to use such programs.

I hate when I have to get technicall, but if I must. The windower most likely created and redirected the POL to a new registry to determine it's windows size, and alter the color scheme and brightness. So if the program did do that then any settings you see in the POL config for color and brightness are basically being ignored. You could spend all the time you like on those and won't change a thing.

It wouldn't matter if the Windower is currently running or not, if it's redirected the registry keys then the windower settings are going to remain regardless. It doesn't matter if you told SE that you had the windower or not, their help is completly based on you not having such a program. If they knew you did then it would be their choice of what to do, most likely they would suggest removing that windower and reinstall POL like I stated.

        EDIT:

If the windower did alter and redirect the registry keys this is why I say it is a bad program. Apparently it did not redirect the registry keys back to the POL original configuration, if you restart your system and start POL without the windower and it's fine then the windower makes that redirection in the User part of the registry keys and not the System part which means your system will go back to normal only after shutdown.

If this is true then the windower saves it's color and brightness in the registry as well, which means once you start windower up you get this same problem. If it doesn't change even after a shutdown, then the windower altered the System part of the registry so unless you are proficent in making changes to the registry the easiest way to resolve the problem is remove the windower and reinstall the POL program.

If I were to make a windower program I would of been smarter not to use the registry for this change and instead grab control of the window handle and through API force the change, this way the change isn't so permanent and less hassle of having to switch the registry back and forth.

your right, i happened to see if my original regedit worked, and tried my backup, and now its clear as day. glad i figured that out, i was about to reinstall >.>

sorry if i seemed hostile, i was a little angry with it, but your right, i shouldnt be using 3rd party software. only time windowers doesnt work is when theirs a live stream going on my computer, such as music videos from launch.com, which i was listening to.

          problem solved :D
