  • Avatar Glitches~

    I've done a search for Avatar bugs, but nothing I needed came up so I'm making a post.... -o-;

    Avatars came out fine when I had FFXI back in the US, but after I moved to Korea and reinstalled FFXI, avatars have always looked glitchy. Like, some parts are cut off, they look scratchy, etc. Could someone tell me how to fix this bug if they have the knowledge? Thanks in advance!

        What I believe is that its a video card issue, the avatars looked normal to me until I got a new card. When I recently updated the drivers that problem seemed to go away, but I got a new problem , but not on avatars.

        I really know jack about computers so I am just assuming from my experience that it is the video card, it could be something else.

          blah... I've used the same video card ever since I bought the PC, I wonder what made this happen.

          Thanks a lot! I'll try to solve it somehow... x.x;

            if you've updated your video drivers and this started happening, then roll back to a prior version.

            Thanks Yyg!

              Sorry my info did not help.

              I was going to ask pretty much what neighbortaru said, if you had the same drivers as before you moved.

              of topic: after I updated drivers my avatar,water and sky graphic problems went away but now everytime a critical hit animation goes off I get a split second slow down.:sweat:

                Yeah that is definitely an issue with the driver you are using for your video card. I had the same problem back when I had a NVIDIA Geforce card. I tried many different drivers... some had the avatar glitch, some had invis glitch, some had fog glitch, some had transparencies glitch... etc, yeah you get the point. My solution? I got an ATI card and the graphics have been perfect ever since. So, unless you can't afford a new card and are stuck w/ that one all you can really do is try different drivers until you find one with the least amount of glitches. I have nothing against NVIDIA and had been my company of choice for a while but I have to say w/ FFXI ATI is definitely the way to go.

                  Man, I was really debating on either an ati or nvidia/geforce card when I got a new one guess I made wrong choice.

                  especially when FFXI and the sims 2 (the wife ) is only games that get played on my PC.

                      hmm I have problems with elvaan shooting bows sometimes their bow's model will explode and have weird geometries flying all over the screen. Just for a short moment but everytime they shoot.

                          I get the exact same thing with my GeForce FX.
                          I actually wanted to post about this but randomly bumped into this thread
                          I actually prefer those glitchy avatars for now, than game slow downs with other drivers... Well I'm getting some new ATI card as soon as I can.

                              With FFXI if you are using nvidia then those glitches should be less likely to occur. With other things like the ATI you might want to try reducing the Graphic Acceleration and it should fix your problem. With the nvidia that did have problems it's most likely that model, there were some nvidia cards that were released GeoForce FX was one of them were they had this problem.

                              For the GeoForce FX series if you want to fix that you should be using NVIDIA FORCEWARE(TM) Ver.56.64 drivers. That the only one I know that works right for that card.

                              EDIT:

                              You can actually find this info on the FFXI website. They specifically say to use NVIDIA FORCEWARE(TM) Ver.56.64 for:

                              GeForce FX series (AGP)
                              GeForce 4 MX Series
                              GeForce 2 MX Series (VRAM32MB and above)

                              Otherwise the NVIDIA FORCEWARE(TM) Ver.66.93 should be used for:

                              GeForce 6800GT/6800Ultra (PCI-Express)
                              GeForce 6600GT/6600 (PCI-Express)
                              GeForce 6800/6800GT(iAGP)
                              GeForce 4 Series (MX excluded)
                              GeForce 3 Series

                              As you may notice the older version of FORCEWARE works better for some of the graphics cards then the new versions for this game.
