This is going to sound really stupid..
I can send pm's to friends in POL, but when they send me one, I hear the bleep, I see the message symbol flash quick..but with no number next to it indicating there's a message. I click it..I get the message list with no new messages..even though my top bar clearly states that someone had left me one.
Did I maybe flip an option I wasn't supposed to, or perhaps I'm missing files?
