New Player, Keep Getting PlayOnline Timeouts

Hi everybody,

New player -- a refugee from Star Wars Galaxies.

I can run Galaxies just fine, browse the Internet just fine, download files, access email, etc. I can test my DSL connection, and it's working just fine.

But every single time I run FFXI, my connection to the server times out after only a few minutes. This evening when I started to play, I times out five times before finally giving up.

Has anybody else had similar problems? It's frustrating to bail on Galaxies due to the innumerable bugs there, only to come here and not be able to start playing due to timeouts.

I'm playing with all the default settings in the PlayOnline browser, so the timeout's set for 30 minutes of inactivity. But I'm not inactive. I'm trying really hard to learn the controls and turn in my Adventurer's Coupon, but the connection keeps dropping.

Note that I'm even losing my connection just using the PlayOnline browser. While I was typing up a support request, my PO browser timed out.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks!

Whatever it was seems to have cleared up. This morning, I was able to log and play without interruption. I'm thinking maybe it was a hiccup of some sort on the part of POL's servers.

It is not just you my friend and while it may have seemed a hiccup I'm pretty sure you will soon find out its not. Since the large 10 hour patch, multiple players server(s) wide, and many person friends on sylph are having INSANE disconnect issues.

The common one is error 4001: connection timeout. Many including myself have contacted SE in regards to this issue and they have tried to say it is router etc. Personally, i've tried with and without router and with the given by SE ports forwarded, even DMZ enabled but ffxi doesn't work via DMZ.

If you continue to get timeout errors I urge you to call POL, at this time it seems they are actually starting to gather info rather then say everyones routers are damaged or not working. This is a plus, but I have a feeling it will be a while before they fix this issue. I will be creating a thread specifically for this topic.

med out 14 times yesterday and i just logged on today and 5 mins later timed out F 4001
