  • Re: Video Card and Screen Problems thread.

    HI there,

I am having a problem with final fantasy 11 and the display.

I have gotten myself a new dell laptop, its loads better than my old pc, which did play the game just fine.

    The problem is this:

Background, music is great, not a problem. The problem is anything that mmoves, this includes my character. She flashes, is the wrong colour and looks genrally crap. Its also any other character and the bad guys! even the cute lil moogles.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and the graphics i have is the Integrated Intel® Graphic Media Accelerator X3100. It plays everything else fine, including World of Warcraft which is a higher speck game i am told.

I have updated my drivers, turned windows updater off, messed about with the config settings and messed about with the graphics cared settings.

Does anyone else have this problem? Did anyone fix it?

    Please help!

    Ruby

New here, and new to the game. I've played MMO's for quite some time now and never ran into this problem(well, on EQ2 I did.. But it was mild and I fixed it somehow). Everythings updated, everythings clean, etc.

Thats my problem. Anyone know how to fix it?/have this problem?

I have a dell laptop Inspiron 1525 as well that my parents bought me for xmass. Love the thing, but vista os does have its annoying issues (stupid allow, confirm etc crap spamming me 2x when i delete something, even as administrator!) Anyways, my background is normal, music normal everything is normal EXEPT mobs, summoned avatars and players. They are all blobs of textures/ polygons and some of them are randomly missing heads and other body parts.

I am hoping it's occuring becuse i am a goober and didnt realize i had to MANUALLY install each expansion and i can't do that till i go home and mooch parents wireless connection, as i am stuck with dial up over here.

BTW: This lap top is way more powerful and better then my 5 year old desktop too: more ram, more hd capacity, faster...and and and AND! it's got a battery!! Yes i know so what, but out in the middle of nowhere, we often get 1 second power glitches that are soo dam annoying.

Now if i can just get d2d to realize that YES i AM in canada and can get the darn collection edition purchased lol.

Oops, forgot to mention the laptop plays EQ1 just fine and even better then my desktop, and i have no other issues with any other games other then FFXI as well as the above poster.

I would post a picture of the occurance but i have no dang idea how to post screenshots.

Gonna go with TGM and say go to the dell website and make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Also, you installing all the expansions shouldn't have anything to do with your game glitching. If try to zone into a area that isn't installed, it will tell you that the area isn't installed and kick you out to the previous zone.

If that is all gibberish to you, are you sure your graphics drivers are up to date? If you are going on the assumption that its a new laptop so they should be, that would be incorrect. When I ordered my Alienware laptop, by the time I received it the drivers needed to be updated. Go here and click the big blue button that says "Check your system for the latest driver".

Intel Driver Update Utility - Check for the latest driver

A simple Google search with your graphics card and ffxi brought up this:

Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family - Final Fantasy XI* game characters have no textures

"Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family

Final Fantasy XI* game characters have no textures

                Description:

Characters have no textures and appear as rough polygons.

                Solution:

This is a known issue with older versions of the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver. Use the latest version of the Intel graphics driver to correct this issue. Refer to the Intel graphics driver README file for driver installation instructions as needed.

I ran that intel driver utility before posting above. Gave me this:

Product DetectedIntel® GM965Current Driver Installed7.14.10.1409Customized computer manufacturer driver detected. Please contact the computer manufacturer for possible updates.

In which case I then manually searched for the driver in device manager, clicked update, there is no update, says I am up to date.

Checking Dell sites....wish they didnt tweak things

UPDATE: Finaly got it to work by downgrading the driver from 7.14.10.109 (dated Jan 2nd 2008) to 7.14.10.1253 (dated April 13th 2007) file link is: Intel GM965 Express Chipset Family,

                  Dell - Support

Basically it recommended i download a dif driver that didnt work, so I clicked option on that driver of OTHER VERSION, thats the one which worked.

I'm having a problems with ffxi graphics, sometimes it work and then it will all the sudden crash on me, this is what I'm seeing.

There should be two attatchments of pictures showing what happens. Im running Nvida, on a Latitude D630 which i know isn't very good, but shouldnt have a problem with ffxi.

I'm probly wrong but might be antilashing issue.

OR card is either overheating and dying. I had funky graphics similar but it was permanent and not sporratic and MUCH worse than your issue back when WOW first came out. Turned out my card was faulty and got a free one to replace it under warrenty.

If FFXI is crashing and you are having errors, it could be your card is starting to fail or you are overheating. If you recently replaced your graphics card, then its probably overheating or pulling too much power. Sometimes people replace the card and get a more powerful card and don't realize it runs hotter and pulls more power. When it overheats, it will crash anything heavily reliant on graphics (i.e. a game). If its pulling more power than your power supply can handle, you'll get glitches and crashes too.

If you haven't replaced the card, then its probably failing. One thing you can do is clean out all the fans/ports so that you know the system has good air flow. Also if you are using a laptop, make sure that its on a firm hard surface when playing. Blocking fans/ports will cause things to overheat and crash.

You can always fiddle with the drivers and see if that helps. Upgrading or downgrading the graphic card drivers could possibly fix the issue too but since its crashing I doubt it.

Well I just downloaded the latest driver, so that's not it. Also I can't get a dif graphics card so it has not been upgraded. I dont think it's over heating, but its a possibility, so I'm guessing after all you say is that it's failing, hmmmm.

I am having an issue that isn't major, but drives me crazy. I have searched for a solution, but just can't find one, possibly because it is difficult to find the right words to describe it.

My system is beyond the minimum, as well as the recommended. I played a few years ago on a 256MB graphic card, single core processor. and 1 gig of ram, and I was running windows xp. The game ran beautifully with no problems at all.
Now, I have an nvidia geforce GTX 285, which is a 1 gig card, a quad core processor, and 4 gigs of ram running on windows 7. I can give more detailed specs if needed, just don't see the need as the old specs ran the game fine, and the new should obviously run better.

Now I should get to the issue. When in game, I have a glitch in the camera movement. When I rotate the cam in a 360, it will move smoothly for 2 seconds, then freeze for a split second, then move freely again. This is a constant that happens when rotating, or even walking around. It is always smooth, glitch, smooth glitch. I know this is not a major issue that is going to prevent me from playing the game, but it gets very annoying, especially since I'm running a system the is beyond the recommended specs.

If anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be, I would greatly appreciate the help.
