I'm really disappointed that so many people seem to be having the same problem, yet I haven't come across any official recognition of the problem from Square. I've tried various gfx drivers, changed the speed of my machine and ram, and yet I still have the same problem, so I've come to the conclusion that it must be the game. But if enough people post their machine configuration, maybe we can see figure out if it is our machines or the game.
One more thing, by changing the background resolution to the default resolution, 512x512, all the crashes stopped. But as soon as I increase it to any other resolution, it starts crashing. But I cannot play at 512x512, because it looks rediculously bad.
My machine config
Abit BG7 w/ p4 1.6A oced to 1.96.
512 samsung pc2700 ram.
ATI Radeon 8500LE
SGI 1600sw lcd.
TB Santa Cruz sc.
running winxp / sp1.
I have my machine overclocked, but I've clocked it at its default speed, and ffxi still crashed. And I've never had any other problems with overclocking so I really doubt that is the problem.
