  • Dragoon Wyvern

Ive seen a Mamool drg wyvern move away from its master and attack something else while the master is fighting other players , whats the deal there ?

It would be beneficial to allow a drg wyvern to act like a long range attack like bows.

    Was this in besieged?

That's the only time I have fought against other dragoons. Initially the Mamool Ja's wyvern will attack whatever the Mamool attacks/attacked by, however players can provoke/gain enmity from the wyvern and draw it away from it's dragoon.

It will still use a breath attack whenever the mamool ja uses a special attack though, so it is rather funny to see a mamool ja spamming special attacks and halfway across the square there is a wyvern spamming breath attacks in all directions as hate bounces between people.

      Re: Dragoon Wyvern

Yeah, same thing I've seen has only been in Besiege. Yes it's always been because someone provoked the wyvern away from the Mamool Ja Dragoon. The last time I messed with a DRG I could get my wyvern to do the same thing by getting the mob to go after the wyvern. Then switch targets without disengaging, the wyvern usually would stick with the one that's been attacking it and you could kill another target separate.

Kind of a gimped way to do what a BST can so much more easily but worked none the less. The wierd thing I have to complain about is why the NPC Friend is so strict on attacking what you attack. I've had a friend NPC gain link aggro from attacking a mob and get killed by a mob she shouldn't of died to if she was to go after it instead of sticking to the one I was attacking.

Yes, it was pretty cool to see it fly around on its own. The least SE could do is change the color of the wyvern to something else like those undead ones.

          Re: Dragoon Wyvern

I've said for a long time that seperated targetting would be awesome for wyverns.

It's kind of sad in a way that wyverns are set up the way they are. All of the quests and literature surrounding the DRG job build up wyverns as a loyal companion or partner to the DRG. However, the way they are built into the game makes them little more then an automated drone that follows the DRG around.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with the job and love all of the positive changes that have been made to it. The issue with the wyvern behavior has always been a little dark cloud in the back of my mind though.

This isn't really a question for the devs, but with a little rewording, it becomes one. Personally, I disagree with this. It's hardly a change DRG would or could benefit from.

Personally, I'd like to see DRG gain more jumps and/or their jumps become more powerful and/or supporting. And/or a natural haste trait. However, involving Wyverns though: I think they could use more supporting breaths such as Erase at some high level or Haste to cure Slow and buff with no status effects are on at a mid level while /mage. For /melee, to keep it up to par with the versatility of /mage, greatly increase the attack power of that wyvern, something between 15 to 35%.

Jumps are pretty good the way they are. The added effects during Spirit Surge are tremendous. Doing too much more to them would probably just result in people calling to nerf the job of all things, as odd as that would be lol. With jumps the tp build for most DRGs is pretty fast as well. I can keep up with most DDs if not exceed them in that category.

I agree that it would be nice to have more statuses taken care of after a weaponskill while subbing a mage job. Adding buffs may take it a bit too far but having more negative statuses removable would be great. The Tier II merits can significantly raise the effects of offensive breaths, so there is little tweaking left to be done there.

On another note, fixing the forced Dismiss from Charm or at least resetting the Call timer when charmed would be nice.

                Re: Dragoon Wyvern

Well, if you really wanna talk about buffs to the dragoon or to our wyverns...

Let us have either dark or holy wyverns, for those of you who don't know that would be either a wyvern who still has it's holy crest vs a wyvern without. The holy wyverns gain a light breath attack with, oh I don't know, some spiffy attribute. Dark wyverns should gain a dark breath attack with attributes similar to the Pain spell from FF8 (poison/silence/blind). Let the gamers have a choice to actually pick what kind of partner they want. It can be a series of quests or one long quest where your actions will determine whether or not your wyvern looses it's crest.

In case someone winds up with a wyvern type they didn't want, there can be two other quests, one of which will give your wyvern a holy quest, the other will remove it, you should only be able to do these quests once, I don't think it would be fair to be switching, constantly removing/restoring your wyvern's holy crest.

Another interesting thing would be that dark wyverns could gain an increase in offensive breath damage, while holy wyverns could use say, Erase or cure a wider range of status ailments and maybe have a higher Healing Breath threshold trigger when you are drg/mage and cast a spell.

I would also like to see the other breath attacks inflict the appropriate blm elemental enfeeblement.

Personally, I'd like to see DRG gain more jumps and/or their jumps become more powerful and/or supporting. And/or a natural haste trait.
Honestly I would like some mild party support traits somewhat similar to what Freya had in FF9, I would LOVE to have Reis's Wind.

I also think that all the jobs that have a ~circle ability/killer trait should gain another ability later that can stun the monster that they are strong to. So like dragoons would have Ancient Circle, and later gain a move similar to Weapon Bash that would stun dragon/wyvern mobs, and only those mobs. Same with drk, sam, and any other job that has similar abilities.

I don't think I would want SE to tweak jumps, I like the spirit surge added effects, and once I merit my jumps they are probably going to become insanely powerful for damage, hate reduction and tp gain.

Yeah, agree. On the one hand, our wyvern IS just a little baby, but on the other hand it would be nice to be able to help our wyvern grow, or have some job traits that aid our wyvern some how. Our wyvern is not just a simple pet and it would be really nice if our job reflected that in it's abilities and traits.

Heck, bsts get cookies to toss to pets, why can't dragoon's get some kind of wyvern chow? Or another question could be where did the dragoons use to get their wyverns? Did they get them from the wild? Was there some royal wyvern hatchery? Shouldn't there be literature in the castle or monastary dealing with the care of wyverns?

I was thinking more along the lines of not acquired from a pain in the ass ENM

Vyuru what you are describing is far too much for a simple fix. Wyverns do not need to be completely redesigned.

I know Vyuru. Actually since the update the enm is very easy. The problem is, I have done it around 20 times and still have not gotten the wyvern feed from it.

Strange. I sell my feed to NPC for 700 odd gil everytime I do the ENM. I'm generally on a 50% drop rate myself as I've noticed.

The ENM for DRG should be one of the easiest now with the new Spirit Surge update and everything.

I've a few times manage to glitch my wyvern, where while I am soloing, as I kill my current prey, I move in range and lock on to the next target, but not in melee range. When the monster dies -just- as I change target, my wyvern automatically goes and attacks it before I even get a hit in. It's quite funny once as I sat there watching it get destroyed by an Exoray before I went over to attack it.

The wyvern feed is OK to use, the HP bar of the wyvern moves quite fast up. I believe it's 10hp regen, but I haven't calculated the amount it actually has healed.
