      Re: Merited Weaponskills

Not to say it's a completely horrible job, but why would we want Merited Weapon Skills now? Anybody with an A rated weapon has access to quite a list of WS. Some of them only there for Skillchain purposes, and others are our favorites due to damage or style. But unless Lv.4 Skillchains are introduced I don't think we really need any more WS. With all the Quests for the trial weapons, and Relic WS I think we're pretty set.

Is there some reason why you think we need more WSs?

No real reason, it's just an idea that popped into my head. I figured so much else can be merited, why not weaponskills?

And as a RDM main, we get no A rated weapons. I think a tailor-made WS would be nifty.

Merited WSes I don't really see the need for.

Exclusive WS for BLU, COR and PUP I would like to see.

            Merited, quested, whatever.

I just wouldn't mind seeing some new ones, for those of us less damage inclined and with a more limited selection, in particular.

This I can't argue with. BLU's the only job with an A rated weapon but doesn't have a Lv.225 or Lv.230 WS. (Somebody correct, but I'm pretty sure BLU can't use Swift Blade. PLD ONRY.) A new Merit'd WS for PUP's Automaton would be nice, especially if it allows them to participate in Lv.3 Skillchains. And maybe for COR, allow them to add Quick Draw to WS. Like a Quick Draw Slug Shot for a damage boost.

Seems silly that three jobs were add in the expansion, all of them capable of dealing damage but only BLU gets an A rated weapon.

I don't think RDM should be getting any new WS until Square-Enix sees fit to fix Puppetmasters. RDM might have no A rated weapons, but they have two B rank weapons.

Puppetmasters have nothing above C rank. They can't even activate ANY of the quested WS. Who's in a worse pickle?

Pfft, Puppetmaster needs to be erased from the game. I seriously believe it the case where they had this awesome title(Puppetmaster, sounds rather boss), but nothing at all to back it up.

Seemed like a poorly thought out concept.

EDIT: Just had a thought. If I recall, RDM started out the same way PUP did, mediocre in every dimension, then got a big beef up later on down the line. It's entirely possible that there may be more than meets the eye with Puppetmaster, and we'll see more from them as time goes.

But again, I could care less about PUP, and what they get.

I think its more to the end the same problem all the other pet jobs have - people filther out pet damage, look at what the pet job player themselves is doing and nothing else. PUPs potential is largely untapped thus far and most other pet jobs are still overlooked to this day.

People just don't want to learn a totally different game dynamic from what they know. I've always liked pet jobs and play two myself, FFXI is the only MMO I know of that treats them so poorly.

Sometimes I wish some things couldn't be filtered out.

I suppose you might be right, I suppose it's the bias against the job, but I never thought it really needed to be introduced to begin with. Though one thing is for sure, other pet based jobs have far better stats than PUP, in which case Icemage was right about them needing retooling.

But again, I could care less about what happens to PUP, since hell will likely freeze over before I level it.

                        Don't underestimate pup...

But yeah, an upgrade to h2h would be kinda nice for them, and merited WS for the automaton.

Correct me if I am wrong, but during the beta testing phase for FFXI rdm had regen II, raise II, and something else that I can't remember. So actually rdm got nerfed, got a boost.

Puppetmaster needs to be erased from the game
I'm sorry, but this is a bit of a sore point for me since it seems that whichever job is the weakest people tend to think that it needs to be erased from the game, since all anybody cares about is damage output, it is the weakest and therefore useless.

Do you have any idea what a puppet is capable of? No? Then go learn about the job and it's abilities.

While I like the idea of merited WS, I'd like to point out that you have meritable spells, so you've got a new toy to play with so I would think that puppetmaster updates are now higher up on the "who needs an update" list than rdm are.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Pup is by no means the best job in the game, but it is easily the most underrated and least understood.

Yeah, my apologies, it was a rather hasty comment... but it dosen't change the way I feel about the job.

As for RDM, it had some extra spells, sure, but, no Refresh, no Dispel, and C rating in all stats. If I recall, we got Regen 2, but I don't think Raise 2(if we did, I wish we'd have kept them), but really, early RDM bore the burden that DRG would later take on... sitting in Jeuno waiting for an invite.

This is why even though I don't particularly care for the job, I can understand PUP's plight. Though PUP's plight might be why I don't care for it. I'm sure once S-E figures out what in the Sam Hill they wanna do with the PUP/automaton relationship, I'll like them just fine.

But hell will still likely freeze over before I level it.

But back on topic, yeah, we get new meritable spells... it's ALWAYS new spells. I love my new spells, don't get me wrong, but as a RDM, I wanted more than just spells to fiddle with. Call me hardheaded, call me a romantic, call me late for dinner... but I want new ways to play with my sword.
