  • The option to mule

I've always thought SE should introduce something very simple that most players would appreciate, especially those with crafting mules.

On the character creation screen we should get the option to mule a character. This would prevent it from gaining xp over level 3 but would give it an auto-flee effect, maybe not as fast as flee, more like Aketon speeds but still it would help immensely. The effect would only occur in cities to prevent abuse.

    Simple really.

Or allow sending of items from the Mog House. That would be handy too!

And to be able to send Rare/EX items to them. Setting a character as "Mule" would also have to be an unchangable setting.

The problem is people have so many mules, how you are describin i is to have a limited character that is basically extra storage, would you still pay for the content ID for this? If the answer is no, then forget it! SE gets Thousands of dollars of money from peoples additional content ID's that are used as mules. There are hundreds of thousands of characters on FF, but only 60% of these (if that) are actual full game play characters.

Having a mule that can flee is kinda what many players do by giving their mules Aketons, so I dunno if SE would consider implementing it if it's already possible.

          That would be nice.

But I dunno, I guess I would rather see SE implementing some sort of server based, High Capacity Mog Storage and Distribution Systemâ„¢ that would let you manage the items of all your characters from the log-in screen.

Say using it would cost you $1-3 usd a month, and it would give you a 200 items safe where all your characters could store and transfer items (between characters on the same server only though) and $1-3 usd per aditional 200 items space (with a max of 1000 maybe?).

          - Mog Safe/Storage/Mog locker interconected between all your characters (in the same server) so you could just transfer non-Ex items without having to log in and out 10 times and run to where the delivery guy is.

          - Extra storage space that wouldn't interfere with PS2 limitations since everything would be managed from outside the game (and you would still be limited to .

          - Ex items would be storage only, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about space.

          - It would replace storage-only mules, but aditional characters and mules used for checking prices and others would be easier to manage.

I know it's kinda farfetched, but I just thought about it while reading this thread, so I just wrote what came to my mind at the moment

I personally like the idea of being able to send items from your mog house. I know it's not like an incredibly long distance from MH to AH, but I'm pretty lazy, so sometimes it is a long distance.

The problem with that is you have to be able to afford an Aketon or reach rank 10 in the appropriate country to buy one with CP. I'm from San d'Oria, I have a windurst cooking mule, I have no intention of changing my allegance and doing all the missions just so I can give my mule an Aketon. Also what I propose would work in any city, so your mule character would be able to run faster regardless of home country.

The fact of the matter is there are so many mule characters out there that people are paying their fees for and won't be levelling them any time soon. So you pay your fee or a character with extra storage that you could potentially one day, consider, thinking about, deciding whether or not to level it; or you have a dedicated mule character for storage/crafting/bazaaring or whatever you want that can move around the city faster. The fee would remain the same regardless.

Mhurron, I agree that setting a character as mule would have to be an unchangable setting or in the very least you could change a character from mule but couldn't change it back.

Heck, I even wish there was some kind of Log Mule system, whereby you didn't have to wait 30 seconds (if not in your mog house), and you just automatically switched over to the character you wanted to switch to, instead of going to the character select screen, that would also be hella handy.

Raydeus makes a good point though. Ideally, we'd just have more storage on our mains. But that's less $$ for SE, quite frankly.

                  Re: The option to mule

Even if there were a "mule" option when creating characters, I doubt I'd use it because from time to time I like to level my mules a bit, it helps with crystal farming. :D

I do love the idea of being able to send things from the Mog House, like if the Moogle were to do it for you but could only do it like, every other Vana'diel day or something? That way you'd still be encouraged to use the regular delivery system but you'd have the option for quick sending.

Also, if they were to implement that, you should be able to put characters you send stuff to frequently on a drop-down list. Like myself, (:D) my mules, and my husband and his mules. Saving the time from typing and also not having to worry about typing errors - which hasn't happened yet, but might - would be nice.

I thought of crystal farming when I had the idea, hence the level 3 cap. Most of the basic crystals can be farmed in the starter zones easily by a level 3 character. Then again this could potentially be abused so maybe its a bad idea. Guess you would have to make a choice when creating the character, ease of movement around the cities or farming potential.

I personally would just like to see r/e gear be transferrable within the same account. I have a ton of r/e gear on my main that I want to keep but would love to be able to mule ie: some AF (I use one AF piece regularly so I can't NPC it) and NM drops. Another option would be changing it so that storage NPCs can take pieces of armor instead of whole sets.

I don't like the "Mule" option idea, there's just way to many times that people who dedicate a character as a mule may decide to level it and sometimes it even becomes their main. The idea then starts becoming a bit discriminating, I mean half of my current LS their main characters they use now use to be the one they made to be a mule.

Deliveries from Moogle sounds nice and all, but I'm not that hot into wanting it. It just seems a bit lazy and takes away from any MMO's design.

Nice idea, but implimenting I'm sure could be a nightmare. I mean if those R/E items are triggered by special events if it's like any MUDs or other games I seen or created this could break those triggers and then break the game. Sad thing is you can't just impliment it and then trust players not to do something that would break the game, you'll always have that black sheep that just wants to destroy.

For the NPC taking entire stuff only I can see the reason for it, this helps with data storage issues. It's the whole reason why we are so restricted in the first place. If you know a player can only store at max of 200, then you can more easily maintain the databases. I mean out of even 500k people getting only 200 storage space means the record potentially could go to 100mil records. A database of a file size of approx. 400GB, you unhinge control of the storage space and taking that maybe 50% of the players will be packrats this just means players consumption of storage space will far out-pace their ability to keep up.

I could see it hard for them to control that because they do have 2 places were storage can varry quite drastically. That being the AH and delivery box. Hearing that some people have cycled 100+ items in their delivery box I could see that the system storing this with everything else could possibly be reaching near 600GB+. I'm not pulling the storage size out of thin air if anyones speculating that, I work with databases storing well over 1 trillion records and see the amount of space they take up. If you want more stuff to storage and other trinket things the best way to accomplish is to recruit more lasting players.

The ability to tranfer rare/ex gear to character on the same account is slightly iffy. Yes it would be a good thing but the idea of items being exclusive is so they are bound to your specific character and cannot be used by any other. If my idea of a character mule setting was introduced then transfer of rare/ex to your mule wouldn't create any problems due to level limitations.

I suppose the system used in GW and other such games where items are customised and bound to a specific user but can be transferred. However only the designated person can actually use them.

What if they had the option to turn off mule status from the help menu like you can with new adventurer status. Once you've done it you can't revert.

Then you get the same problem as the reverse. Person decides they want it as mule, set it as mule, changes their mind and takes it off. Now they are back to as if that system didn't exist, also it's kind of adding pointless info for the system to keep track of. Now you have to build the database to keep a marker on which ones can and can't switch to mule. Seriously I'd rather that 1 field of data go to something more constructive.

"Hey guys, it's more MMO like to run from your mog house to a random NPC near the AH to send stuff. If you say in your room, that's game breaking. A big no thanks there."

I mean, I like to think you're a pretty smart guy most of the time, but sometimes you just come completely out of left field with this disagreement crap. And then you fight to the death on it, like it really matters if SE works on some feature that you don't think is worthwhile. None of this stuff will probably ever happen, but we're allowed to dream.
