  • PLD shield job trait.

    My question:

How likely would it be adding a job trait for PLD that converted the Defense stat from the shield they are using into a Phlanx-like effect against both magic and physical attacks?

Say you are using a buckler with a defense stat of 9 then that you'd get a damage -9 effect, if you were using a Palmerin shield (Def. 20) or a Koenig (Def. 23) you'd get -20 and -23 damage reduction from both physical and magic attacks.

It isn't much but it would greatly improve PLD shield tanking.

    Re: PLD shield job trait.

Personally, as a paladin lvl54, i like this idea. In the post early in this discussion, someone mentioned about Paladin's getting the short end of the stick when it comes to nin's and war/nins. I mean, nins won't take as much damage as paladins, they dual(making them a good DD in the tank spot unlike paladins who just focus on taking less damage, but overall will take more damage the entire battle compared to a nin), etc. Maybe doing this shield idea would help give paladins that defensive edge back. I mean seriously, I look at paladins now, and the only thing people think of is "it's a tougher whm with less spells", talk unbalanced. Paladins need a serious overall, us white knights in shining armor are being outdone by ninjas. I took paladin because in my opinion and what i knew from the time, it was the ultimate tank, that was it's category and nobody was gonna out do it. Now i have put all this time into a class i admire to only be considered a second rate tank. The shield idea would immensly help, and it should be a job trait, that way only paladins can get that damage reduction with a shield effect.

The amount of damage reduced by shields is decided by its size. Smaller = less reduced/procs more. Bigger= more reduced/procs less. Relic= most reduced/procs most. Please before you try to suggest something to SE know how it works.

And what does the proc. rate/damage reduced from shield sizes have to do with my suggestion?

I think you missed the point of my OP.

          Re: PLD shield job trait.

What would be the point (well outside a PLD wanting to be stronger)? You already get a Phalanx bonus from shield and all shields pretty much progress in at the same rate in defense. Defense is a stat that is always being raised, but the size is usually the main factor in mind. SE already 'fixed' shields by giving them sizes, instead of making the defense on them matter more. Asking to make Shield Mastery give more TP or make shields proc more for PLD would make more sense.

If PLD needs a fix, its in their VIT/Defense and their lack of damage dealing abilities.
