  • Onscreen party status icons.

Would it be possible to have icons letting a player know what status ailments a party member is suffering from? I realise the party window has its limitations. But would it be possible to do it in a different way? For example, we could be able to target a player and their status ailments would show up next to their name, or maybe on the small "current target" window that shows up above the party window.

Also, what are the chances of a status icon blinking above a player's name once he gets afflicted with a status ailment? for a couple of seconds atleast. It is quite cumbersome to rely on the chatlog to know these details while paying attention to many other things that happen in battle.

The same would be nice with buffs like protect and shell.

      Re: Onscreen party status icons.

SE in their endless wisdom decided against including a feature like that because this game is all about soloing anyway. It's probably quite doable as a Windower plugin or a separate program running in the background, but SE doesn't like it when a third party improves their game so it would be banned anyway.

I would like to see icons relating to status effects active on a mob.

Really, I would like to be able to see more of the game then 8 lines of the chat log.

I've wished that RDMs got a job trait allowing them to see what debuffs were on a monster just by looking at it. I personally think WHM should get something similar for party members.

That chat log sucks! And the filters for it suck worse. It blows my mind that there's no way of you knowing when a buff you casted on your party is gone or not other than staring deep into the scrolling eight lines of multicolored text that occaisionally zips by like it doesn't want you to reading it or something. That chat box it terrible! You rely on it for most everything that doesn't have to do with your own character and it's limited as hell! Auto-translate sucks, the size sucks, the small amount you're allowed to type before you have to start all over again sucks, and I already mentioned the filters...

Oh, wait... That's right, I'm playing on the PC. I have a monitor with triple the resolution of a T.V.

I guess the main reason why we can't see other buffs is because people playing on Televisions have little room on-screen to view them.

I second this! Nothing like pulling a mob, you Dispel one thing, then suddenly notice they have Shell up and I didn't Dispel it. Or you pull a mob, and you spend the 25MP to Dispel it and you don't need it. Hell, I wouldn't even complain if it was just a job ability, with a 3 to 5 minute /recast. Just would be so very helpful, and I wouldn't /cry if they made it so you couldn't use it on HNMs.

The idea for WHM is a nice one too! But I think that should be a Job Trait. Just select a person, and it shows their buffs & debuffs. (Paralyze, Slow, Silence, Haste, Protect, Shell, Stoneskin, Bar-elemental, etc

I would also like them to update the status icons. I'm glad Utsusemi doesn't look like the generic Barfira, Phalanx, Barpoisonra, and so on icon. I was hoping they would change the Phalanx icon with the advent of Phalanx II. I guess one or two things at a time huh?

Your lips to the ears of the gods (and SE).

I'd be pleased if it was even just a generic marker indicating that this person has any ailment. Heck, just make their name a different color next to their HP/MP bars (since that's all I look at as WHM anyways) -- I suggest a light green...

lol what you expect. S.E is slow on enhancing their game. i mean it took them over 3 years to make the utsus symbol look different from barfira symbol.

i was surprised they switched the conquest symols color, an the imp standing dsymbol.

                    Spell: Scan WHM 16/RDM 16 - Enhancing - mp 10, cast 5sec, recast 5mins, duration 1min.
Displays the targets buff/debuff symbols under yours.

Might want a longer duration/ shorter recast.

Then again, you can just use Dispel to find out what buffs they have ~.^

                        Re: Onscreen party status icons.

I wholeheartedly support this. I can't tell you how many times some monster's done some kind of Additional Effect: Poison attack that won't show up in the chatlog (No Playerx was poisoned message) no matter how many chatfilters I turn off.

This actually is what surprised me when I first started playing, because in previous Final Fantasies, there'd be status indicators, like green bubbles on your head for poison, and sunglasses to represent blindness.

I don't think it'd tax the feeble PS2 memory very much to have a 1-or-2-frame animation icon, about the same size as signet and other status icons, above your party's head.

Perhaps limit it to your party only, and add a chat filter type switch to turn it off for high-lag areas such as Dynamis and Besieged?

With enough positive feedback we might let SE know we really want this, so keep em coming, and dont need to point out SE's past mistakes, remember this whole SE question forum is about asking questions, so please try to keep it clean, who knows, we might stand out more if we try.

It might be good having the option of looking at stats on players by either targetting them (and the stats showing above the target's window that displays the HP and name).

Or showing them above the player's name the same way ls or bazaar icons (adding a toggle for on-screen/target/off the same way we have for damage in Gameplay Options).

I agree with the idea of showing parties (and perhaps battle target mobs) status effects.

I also agree with the idea for a better range of icons, ideally having each status showing up differently.
