    Re: why i canceled

    Who needs those anyway? \(^-^)/

Edit > Also, on topic, the sad part about XI is that lower frame rates usually equals slower response for macros and commands. I've talked about it many times before but specially at lower frame rates (Besieged more than anything because of the amount of players, but other activities like Dynamis come to mind) the macro pallet on PC takes a while to show up and even though you can theoricaly press the macro before the pallet is displayed you usually need to press the number key at least twice to get it to work.

It was never too bad for me, but that's the kind of unnecessary crappy performance that would make me quit a game. Specially when said slowdowns get you killed often.

Edit +1 > Like that time Mhurron got killed when we were about to beat 9-2 because his macros stopped responding. XD

      Re: why i canceled

This is a pretty valid reason for quitting a game that requires a monthly fee. Why pay a fee to watch a slideshow? If the game performed so poorly that it was unplayable I wouldn't pay for it either.

It's not like it's a shit computer either, there's no excuse for FFXI to run so poorly on any modern PC.

Yea there's no reason for that.

But who knows what hes doing on the computer other than playing FFXI?

Plus 20 fps is hardly a slideshow.

Even then, its on the user to optimize his PC's performance for each particular game, not the game or the hardware itself. Just because your PC has awesome specs doesn't mean the game will run awesome by default. PCs vary from model to model, they're not like game consoles with set specs.

Not to mention the RPG genre is not known for breaking 20 or 30 FPS that often anyway, much less MMORPGs, because they want to go for as much eye candy as possible.

              Re: why i canceled

The thing is, it shouldn't run that bad as he is saying, he is doing something wrong. I either get a new PC or do massive upgrades every year, and have never had any problems in FFXI graphic-wise. The first time I played FFXI was in 2003 with a Radeon 9800 Pro, ran at max settings no problem even with the registry edits for increased resolution, infact I ran 2 FFXI's all the time using Windower. The 9800 Pro is a pretty crappy card by today's standards, you can get something 5 times more powerful for like $75 nowadays. It doesn't have a problem with newer hardware either, doesn't matter if it's from Nvidia or ATI, I've ran it in addition on a x800 xt (2004-2005), Geforce 7900GT (2006-2007), Geforce 8800GTX (2007-2008), and most recently Radeon HD4870.

Ran it with all kinds of CPUs as well, Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Core 2 Duo, Quad Core, etc. On Windows XP, Windows Vista, even got it working on Windows Server.

Something is wrong with your PC if the game runs like a slideshow. Assuming you have a capable PC, and in this case the poster's PC is more than capable, FFXI should be a joke to his PC.
