It's a pain to deal with third-party workaround solutions, and having native support in FFXI for the controller would make things so much easier and more convenient.

Have you downloaded the official software from microsoft? Since I can't post urls just go to google and type in "connect xbox 360 controller to computer" and its the first option (or hit I'm feeling lucky) Download that then it's just tweeking some settings within ffxi to get it to work. -

Using the official Microsoft 360 controller drivers, the left and right triggers are recognized as additional analog axes, but FFXI can't recognize them as axes. If the MS drivers had a setting to make the triggers be recognized as digital buttons, then the controller would work fine in FFXI.
As it is now, you have to use third party drivers to get the triggers to act like digital buttons...
