  • Economic corrections

I am aware this has been suggested before, and it well under discussion in many forms & threads.

I am also aware that a similar issue exists with in WoW, namely the gold/Gil sellers and the seperation between farmable valuables and equipment, the value of which is starting in the price range of 500k to a few million gil.
I believe SE's current actions have reduced the troubles greatly, but the issue remains consistant.

My question is why has SE not basically done what blizzard has done, and made the availability of gil so easy that it basically negates the purpose of the gilseller?

If the quest rewards were updated, NPC sellable item prices adjusted and the mob gil drops were adjusted there would be an initial inflation but less demand on the GS market as a person could easily farm up the gil they need instead of buying it with RL currency.

    Re: Economic corrections

How would you feel if, after playing for 5+ years, you found out that your Kraken Club, normally worth well over 100 mil, was now worth... 10k? How would you feel after all the hours of farming and crafting, you discovered your Sha'ir Manteel, which normally goes for around 5-7 mil, is now worth 1k?

What you're suggesting would do exactly that. The differences may not be as drastic (100 mil wouldn't drop to 10k), but there would be some significant deflation.

It's better to go after the source, as they are doing.

What your saying is basically already happening although at not such an extreme.

No offense, but you really should take a course on economics. Adding more gil to circulate only causes inflation solves nothing. And this wouldn't take away gilsellers. All this would do is make it even easier for gilsellers to get a hold of gil and inflate the prices of everything.

Beyond what the others have said, obtaining gil IS already easy enough that any player should be able to afford acceptable equipment and consumables for party play without much hardship, and be able to afford <desirable, expensive piece of gear> without having to take a whole month off without partying.

            Re: Economic corrections

Gil being easier to collect would just mean things would end up costing more except through NPCs. Oh, and as for the price changes, take another look, and consider the value of the gil when you do ... 100k gil a few years ago was a LOT easier to collect than now, so the gil has more value than it used to.

It sounds like the OP would really like a loot-based system, or maybe NPC-based, where you buy off vendors and crafters never really enter into the equation...

              Re: Economic corrections

Remember when Scorpion Harness used to be super expensive and hard to get? (If not, then you probably haven't been playing long enough to have a good perspective on economy issues anyway.) Do you think it was because there weren't enough bonecrafters or they price gouged too much? No - it was because you need a venomous claw and they used to be very hard to get before the introduction of Operation Desert Swarm. Now SH is affordable to basically anyone - the price of SH fell practically in tandem with the price of VC.

Imperial wootz is expensive because it requires khroma ore which can come only from ISNMs or as an ultra-rare mining result in Zhayolm (or from the lottery, but that's only a temporary boost). If SE introduces a new permanent source of khroma/i-wootz, salvage body pieces will become more reasonably affordable; if not, not. (I think they're currently about 7-7.5M, which is pretty insane in today's gil. Especially if you have multiple jobs...)

In general, expensive stuff is expensive because it is made from hard to get materials. Changing the supply of gil in the world won't affect that. Changing the supply of those materials will (look at ODS and its effect on the SH). But there will always be something else that is hard to get and highly desired.

Money isn't wealth. Maybe you should study some economics before suggesting economic corrections.

P.S. Gil does directly affect a few things: dynamis and limbus entry fees are paid in gil, for example. But those events are in reality mainly limited by their timers and the amount of player time and effort available to put into them. It's true that fewer players are running those events, but I don't think the cost has much to do with it. Deflation doesn't threaten that content nearly as much as the availability of alternative content does - dynamis used to be the only endgame in town, and now it's not, and a lot of people have everything they can possibly get from dynamis except a relic.
