  • Change button color/size

Hello all, obviously my first post here and i'm also new to FFXI. Let me first say great game!

    Anyways here is my dilemma;
I play on my 60" hdtv - I have my background resolution set to 1920x1080 and foreground resolution set to 1024x1024. The issue I have is at that resolution I need a magnifying glass to read the menu's or I need to sit right in front of my tv, which is not healthy :P
I know I can set my background res to something smaller but I really loose quality that way. Same with the foreground res - If I go lower then 1024 it pixelates way to much.

    So on to my question:
Is there a tweak/hack/dat/whatever that I can use to make just the menu's bigger? If not is there something I can do/use to change the menu buttons colors to maybe black with white text?

Thanks for help on this, see you online!

      Re: Change button color/size

I understand that lowering the 1024x1024 option will make the menu's bigger but with doing that it heavily pixelates everything else (npc's and such). Is there any other solution or am I just stuck...

You sure? there are 2 resolutions, i believe one is for the menus, the other is for the game graphics, give it a try.

Graphics - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

You want the foreground resolution (buttons) to be the correct ratio for your display. The way you're describing this, you're playing at 1024x1024, with the graphics rendered at a different resolution (and ratio) and squished into that box. And then likely upsampled to fit your display? Put them both at the same ratio, if not the same size. (The background resolution does not need to be square; in fact, I've always found I get the best performance by keeping it exactly the same as the foreground resolution.)

Also make sure you've got the correct ratio selected through the in-game menus. (I'm not sure exactly where it is. Gameplay or Misc. 1 or 2 or something. Dig around until you find display ratios.)

You might want to look at Brandson's UI mod. It doesn't change the button colors, but you might find them a bit easier to read anyway.

Are you on a PC or either PS2 or xbox360?? If on the 360 in the dashboard there's different graphic settings you can use that'll make FFXI able so you can read it...on PS2...you might be SOL besides the ingame corrections. On PC I'd suggest maybe going the way of the unofficial windower 3.3. There you can use different resolutins to suit your needs.

It's not like you can't change the resolution without the unofficial windower. All it takes is regedit.

                Re: Change button color/size

I'm sorry to create such confusion. When I first typed this post I was at work and not in front of my FFXI pc. After I got home i tinkered with the settings for a bit and everything looks beautiful. I have my screen resolution at 1280x720 and I did the reg edit to have the background at 2048x2048 and I turned down the gamma .2 points and everything looks great!

I still would like to change the table backgrounds to a different color if possible. I know in the settings menu there are around 7 or so different backgrounds but is there a way to create a custom one or edit current ones?

                Thanks for your time

                  Re: Change button color/size

Brandson's mod includes some alternate window backgrounds. Don't know anything about changing them beyond that, myself.
