  • Will you ever allow for race changing?

The idea i have is to place a gene splicer into the game somewhere, maybe it is restricted to use once a month or something similar (maybe even a once off)

I ask this because i picked the race hume as when i started playing, i didnt know the game and didnt know what jobs i would want to play, and i now find myself playing only mage based jobs and would really benefit from being a Taru

Im sure there are many other players in the same or a similar situation to myself, weather they read these forums or otherwise and would even greatly welcome possibly a one time or annual event in vanadiel where this was possible

    Many thanks

Race does not matter in jobs -.- and this would be a horrible thing to place into the game, it would ruin the whole RP aspect of it..... only thing at all, to changing your character, would be hair.

You are a Hume Mage, your just as good as a Taru mage,

Its proven that TARU MP far exceeds other races at higher levels. I believe it would be a cool new aspect to the game as well. Perhaps SE could work that into a storyline or something... IMHO

While the differences are slight, it does matter to a degree. A taru had more int/mp than anyother race and will make them a better blm. Elvaan have more str making better mnks (and mind to for chi blast). Galka have more vit making them a better tank.

While all jobs can be played effeciently by all races, but no non-taru blm will beat out a taru, provided they are all geared appropriatly. And the difference isn't always slight. The Elvaan blm in my LS loves his epeen gear (Novio, Genie, 3 pieces of Morrigans, sorcerer's belt, Sorcerer's ring and other HQ gear). While he can hit a 2700 MB on Fafnir, the taru behind him is hitting 2900.

BLM specifically, activating the sorcere's ring is rather easy as a taru (requires no Zenith gear). But to do so Elvaan or Galka requires several million in gear and hard to obtain pieces to activate it.

I personally wouldn't mind having a one time chance to change races, even though I wouldn't do it myself.

SE has indicated before that it's something they won't do. I'm not sure they've ever really made an official statement on it though.

Re: Will you ever allow for race changing?

I would personally be concerned about such a feature unless it was hard to do, at least on the order of the requirements for world transfer. The ability to casually change race would help revive prejudices against unconventional race/job combos. Most people at this point figure if someone's around long enough they'll branch out in directions that weren't part of their original plan for the character, given the flexibility of the job system, so people are open more about inviting people for their job regardless of race. I could see it eventually being part of the standard min-maxing that whenever you change your job, you have to change your race to the one considered optimal or else you can forget about party invites.

That's really debatable, since, if you really want to get into stats, Elvaan have sucky DEX, and Accuracy is generally more important than Attack or STR. And Galka have really sucky MP (and one point of MP is worth more than one point of HP.)

Except for BLM (for which INT can actually make a noticeable/measurable difference in performance) the only two stats that matter between races is HP and MP. The rest of just gravy since the gaps aren't big enough for it to matter on enfeebles, cures, DD'ing, or tanking.

Re: Will you ever allow for race changing?

I agree completly Armado that the differences are slight (appart from BLM where the differences are more messurable). Another instance where race would matter would be DRK with soul eater. A taru would have to wear more +HP gear to match that of an elvaan/galka, but would give up the acc/att slots for equipment. That, or sacrifice the potential damage from soul eater to keep acc/att gear on.

Personally I wouldn't change my race. I find playing a job not designed to my race to be fun. But I can understand why players that started and choose hume due to indecisivness would want to change thier race to a more specialized race.

I wouldn't want you to change your race more than once (or perhaps once a year or something). Otherwise it would be one more thing to do before leaving town...change jobs, get 50 pieces of gear, get sanction/signet, change race, pick up prisms/oils, et cetera...

I don't think this topic is overly important, I'd be fine if it was added or not. I was commenting on the fact there are differences between the races that can't always be overcome (however slight)

I would love to change everyone into a tarutaru... would make the game lag less in intense areas and everyone would just look ... right with the world...

everyone being a Taru would not cause less lag lol.... I would be very disappointed if this was added to the game. When you make your character, your supost to make one going by what you like, not what will make the you most "uber"

Not necessarily. You chose to make a character based on what you like. I chose to make a character that would make my leveling easier for the jobs I initially decided to play.

Re: Will you ever allow for race changing?

I think the only time there should be any ability to change races is if a new race were introduced (Male mithra for example) and then only have a short window to switch to the choice that was unavailable at character creation. Myself I've gotten too fond of my Elvan to change.

BTW regarding all races being equal to each other. Take it from a Elvan 40 blm that is not at all true. There are differences and you notice them. They didn't stop me from leveling, but did require more effort from me than a tarutaru thank God for RSE it made it so I could stand near the level of other blm's of the same level damagewise with capped skill. Below is an extreme example and it's generally not that bad, but it does happen I play anyway, but won't pretend there's no differences. You can also use foods that play to one strength or another more int or more mp regened while resting. (I sugest int in this case)

There are "programs" out there that do change any race to any other race. People that have used such programs claim that there's less lag because less models are introduced into the screen, and the same models are used thus, less memory lag.

you still have to load the same amount of models, it does nothing for lag ;p
