  • Would SE consider tweaking/updating AF1s for level capped situations?

As a Corsair, I've been very pleased with my Trump Gun, it sits at level 40 ready for action whenever a CoP mission or level-capped BCNM40 or 50 comes my way. Additionally, my NIN and BST also seem to share this luxury so that when they enter a 40 cap situation, they don't have to unearth the mog house for new weapons.

Other jobs are not so fortunate as these jobs in regards to AF1s and many of these weapons have fallen behind the times in the game. My RNG's Sniping Bow, for example, is completely outclassed by Battle Bow +1 yet Trump Gun is the best thing my COR can get until a Matchlock Gun. And meanwhile Dragoon's Peregrine seems to have a short life and its totally unuseable for level-capped situations.

Since all AF1 quests are available to players at 40 and the game places 40 caps on players quite often, it seems odd that not all jobs can use the weapons they quested and that some aren't as modern or effective as COR or BST AF1s

So would SE consider updating and improving AF1s for level-capped situations?

Yay, one of the few done right =p Go BBQ XD

I agree, there are Very few uses for a majority of the AF1, especially since most of them are 41+ and dont work for very long, and have no use later on in the game. if it were possible to even just change them all to lvl 40, that would increase the usefulness of a bunch of the weapons. Even then, some of them would still suck. XD

    Yay, Ty for this Eohmer~

Yeah, Fencing Degen is 41, and really only useful if you're meleeing, and for Convert. But most RDM are back line by then.

The only AF1 I've had were for war and rdm. War I didn't use because I used GA for sturmwind until I could get rampage, which could just be my preference but most other wars I know didn't use theirs either, and even though rdm's degen seemed nifty I rarely had the chance to use it since I was back line job :(

Most people complain about AF1, even though they are essential to unlock the rest of your AF most AF1 are useless. I think it would be great if they improved them to make them really worth while.

Most AF weapons are notoriously lackluster. Even THF's AF1 is only any use at 50 as an off-hand weapon, and probably not a particularly great option for that. The useful lifetime of an AF weapon is so short that a level 41, 42 or 43 weapon is unuable for 40-cap and hopelessly obsolete for 50-cap. Add to this the fact that many people don't even get their AF weapons until they're in the 50s as a prereq to their armor...

Capped events can quickly become the only way to experience jobs at various points where their abilityset and playstyle is much different from its eventual role at level 75, given the rarity of items like Guide/Sprout berets that allow people to participate in parties of more limited strengths. I think a lot of people find the job's AF to have a special significance apart from mere combat, but leaving no viable niche for these items, combined with the pressures of equipment for multiple jobs and more practical cap gear gives most players every reason to simply discard and forget these items.

Re: Would SE consider tweaking/updating AF1s for level capped situations?

Very good suggestion. There are a handful of useful AF1s and most of them aren't Lv.40. The only ones I've really used were DRK AF1 (STR+2 INT+2 & decent base DMG), SAM AF1 (STR+1 AGI+1 & decent base DMG), and RDM AF1 (For Convert as well.) None of them are available for Lv.40 cap missions or BCNMs, and come Lv.50 there are better options in nearly all instances.

Of course there's the issue of you hit Lv.40, get excited to start actually getting artifact gear and job story line, only to have to wait to even use it! WAR, THF, PUP (not even a weapon), NIN, COR, BLU, BRD, and BST are the only ones that actually use their AF1s at Lv.40. WAR would use Great Axe in most instances, PUP's isn't an actual weapon, BRD doesn't melee, and if not for the CHR BST would probably select something else. So 5 out of 18 jobs actually have used AF1s. Adjusting their levels would finally get those dusty weapons some usage.

Another thing I've wanted for a long time, is to be able to STORE our AF1s. Some of them have sentimental value, others are usable. Lemme store them some place so they don't eat up my inventory with all the other Rare/Ex junk I like to collect.
