  • Would SE consider some options to edit/manage linkshell members who are offline?

This idea really has come to me before but I didn't think about it again until a thread popped up about it.

Could there be any possibility that a linkshell leader could manage his members at all times, regardless of whether or not they are online? For example, allowing second characters on the leader's account to have a pearlsack, or even as far as to kick a member who is not online?

The way I visualize this working is just a list, kind of like your friend list, which shows only to the linkshell leader. It shows your online linkshell members the same way as it does now, and then lists your offline members. Upon selecting an offline member, the leader can choose to make them sackholders, "unmake" them sackholders, kick them, or even send them messages in PlayOnline without necessarily having to add them to their friend list. I personally have several linkshell friends who are not on my friend list.

Anyway, as a potential linskhell owner (I have one in my Mog House but have yet to really get it up and running), this is a kind of linkshell managing option I'd love to see. Prevention of abuse would be very simple, because members who don't like your managerial skills can simply leave the linkshell.

    Thoughts?

That's not a bad idea. At the same time, you can see who still has a pearl and who has dropped their pearl. I like the Online/Offline idea.
It would also be a good way to keep track of how many members are in the linkshell.

Actually, this should be a feature in the LS Community. I mean it would be perfect for it.

That's a good point, but do a lot of people actually visit the linkshell community? I've never even been around there to check it out. Maybe I'm in the minority on that one though, so I'll have to take a look. Maybe my LS is there and I don't even know it! lol.

I don't know what you mean exactly, but the LS Community shows a list of all the players who have pearls in their possession, even if they are not logged in. It even shows banned players.

I would have to have been familiar with it to really know all of its capabilities, and I'm really not familiar with it at all. Though I can see how something which already lists linkshell members would be the perfect fit for extra editing options as far as members and sackholders go.

The LS community is really useful for things like this..... IF they actually go register. I only have about half of my LS that will register on the site, and while I post things, half the LS doesn't read it.

Not everyone has a computer though. I love this idea of managing LS even when members are offline.. I honestly don't even know how many I have in my LS, I have lost count, and some log on when I'm not on so I really have no idea who is current.

Good idea, I'd love to see it implemented in a future update.

Re: Would SE consider some options to edit/manage linkshell members who are offline?

ah! Coolness - so, Alshandra (or whoever knows), the LS community thing can be gotten to outside of logging into the game's POL?

Perhaps, then, SE may allow a shell holder to input a member who already has a pearl. Also, an option that may be added would be to to allow messages into the game from postings by a bag holder from the community web-site.

Such functionality would be along the lines of what people would need, I think - including me - the shell my character has is very different and could thrive on some sort of set-up as what I mentioned.

Finally, since I have very limited internet access in my current job locale, practically all of the game type stuff in the internet (this & ffxiah.com are, so far, the only sites the servers here have not 'ear-marked'). So, I cannot 'see' how anything is already working (please do correct anything concerning how the ffxi community site works that I have wrongly assumed - thx!)

Yes, the Linkshell Community site is a website you access on the internet, I can't look for the link as I'm at work, and that site is blocked here, but you can look on the Playonline website under the Community section to find it.

Basically, those that have sacks/pearls can register themselves on the site, and access their Linkshell's page. Its really a useful tool as you can see everyones levels, crafting skill, and missions. It's like a forum that you can make posts on and communicate with your LS mates and schedule events, etc.

It's only as usefull as the people that register on it though, as I mentioned before. It has no real connection to the Playonline viewer in respect to messages or anything though, which actually would be handy, for example if you wanted to post a bulletin you could post it on the site and have it send a Playonline message to all members that they could access on the game.

I hope this is what you meant with your question!

Re: Would SE consider some options to edit/manage linkshell members who are offline?

                      Yes, that's it.

I should say that I would like for any moderators or administrators to consider making some inquiry to SE about adding those features. People with a PS2 who have limited - or zero - computer access could then stay connected/interact with the part of their community who may currently be in the LS web-site only.

                      In particular..

                      1) that members who already have a pearl in the game may be added by a sack or shell holder to the LS community web-site

                      2) that notices be able to be sent to the LS web-site from in the game, and from the web-site into the game.

                      3) I don't know if this is already a something that we may do, but perhaps there may be some similar feature that may work with the Friend List as with (what is being proposed) with the linkshell community. Although, this may be a subject for another time and another place ^~

There are a number of people who have to stop playing but do want to come back later, for various reasons. I know people in the game who must do this because of military service, only wanting to play during summer school break, people who live in more northerly latitudes where they might only play during the winter (aka 'seasonal businesses,' and those who have jobs where they must travel (I fall into at least one of those categories^^ ). Just seeing the various posts in these forums indicates there are many who leave then come back.

Finally, as linkshells come and go (is there 1 in a hundred - in a thousand - that has lasted the duration of the game - even subtracting a few months, or so.. um, make that a new thread if any1's got a answer ^^ ) there are those people who may apreciate the FL feature to interact with through a community (incidently, I have known of a few people who prefer to use their FL and not use LSs). But, again, this is a more 'parenthetical' thing: the LS community interaction is the main idea - the FL interaction may be another subject.

                      So, to sum up..

                      * please ask SE if a bagg &/or shell holder may add a character to their community, and..

                      * please ask SE that the capability to send messages from the LS community web-site to the game, and, from the game to the LS web-site.

Once again, I may be inaccurate in some things, but this I believe that this could be a great help to everyone

Thank You in advance : )
